    DSG 1207: Open-Ended: GREEN & MEAN

[ "Open-Ended" does not mean time-wise, it means this topic is exceptionally open to interpretation. ]

    [ So, lessee... ]

[ The parameters within which you should work for this 'un are as follows... ]

[ It (whatever "it" is) should be green... ]

[ and It should also be mean. ]

[ So, try and keep those two things in mind while doing this one. ]

[ Oh, and no pictures of the HULK are acceptable. ]

[ Nor are any pictures of Mean Joe Green. ]

    [ You know. ]

[ Make up something new. ]

    [ sugg. by Wasker. ]

God, I'm rusty. Anyways, I started out drawing something cute and small and ended up with this, not sure what happened.

Some day I'll finish something, I promise. And when I do, I might even post it on here.

well, I'm not sure how I am to tell you this, but she is green & if you are captain Kirk, well it might work for you; but for most that's probably a turn-off

(but it's probably the dry skin, the long face etc that does it, as you want translucent skin, wet large eyes and baby proportions for the cuteish)

dan It wasn't even supposed to be humanoid, more of a Lilo & Stitch type of thing. Guess I got sidetracked. Now let's refrain from any speculation as to how and why, shall we?

Mydrim Love it. However, I hope you used a custom brush for all that hair. If not, and if you drew this how I think you drew it, it might be time to start seeing a therapist.

Mydrim Custom brush thingie here. There's probably others if you care to look for them.
No clue how to get it to look all squiggly and hairy though, good luck with that.

    DSG 1207: Open-Ended: GREEN & MEAN

Painting a cyclops: Not one of the Argonauts better ideas.

Talent and all that for the most part is nothing but hogwash. Any schoolboy with a little aptitude might very well draw better then I perhaps, but what he most often lacks is that tough yearning for realization, the teeth-grinding obstinacy and saying: even though I know I'm not capable of it, I'm still goning to do it.

GodsToasterOven> Well, I think Jason haven't met a cyclops. It was Odysseus.

Anyway, that's really odd "green and mean" interpretation, Painting a cyclops

Mydrim Always get those two mixed up, oh well.

I woke up early so I thought it would be a good idea to sketch a little before breakfast. This one took me about an hour.

here is mine. took about 1 1/2 hrs I was playing around with brushes overall i like it, but it does have room for improvement.

    DSG 1207: Open-Ended: GREEN & MEAN

Dan & Ogar, that is some pretty cool stuff. I like that you, Dan, were thinking out of the box.

junthi, I like yours, but not so sure aboure the grean and mean, am I missing something?

Art, you should get your darks darker and light light, I do like where you are going though.

Zhiwang, I like doing textures alot, the thing that helps me the most is actually observing objects in real life and sort of pull it apart. Like why it looks the way it looks and what not. Is that weird? It would really help if you semi knew what your material is that you are trying to texture. Different specular on different objects and what not. I also like thinking about the history of the object. Where its been, what it has been used for and the like. Hope this helps.

Havent done dsg in a long time. the first thing i thought of with this was the hulk, as im sure a lot of u did as well haha.

Zhiwang: It all comes in time. If you practice a lot, and study how other people do theirs you will figure it out in no time. i think your peice is interesting but it doesnt say "Mean" to me

Tommoy: This is a sweet pic, you should finish it up some more, mainly around the face. Make it sharper. Otherwise the red tips are awesome and its a funny looking character.

WolfBane: very nice! you must play wow cool looking character tho.

Mydrim: I must say that big guy is amazing. He lookings awesome. The way he was drawn is incredible i love it. The person on top needs more work to match with him tho. Also you should remove all the text, it takes away from the image.

ogar555: most of this image is very cool. his legs need a lot of work and his anatomy is awkward otherwise i really dig the way hes painted.

I dont have time to go through them all, sorry if i didnt comment on yours. KEEP DRAWING!!!

i had to draw a massive frog beast, it was all i could think of, apart from kermit with a machine gun!:p
Tommoy-another good piece, nice contrast with the backrounf and good gesture.
Dan illimata-its not mean but a great looking ship anyway
ogar-very monsterish, i like his angry gesture
everyone else, a great selection of work but too many to individuallt comment on.
My piece is a big nasty frog beast, i wanted to spend a bit more time on it but i felt that i should just stick to the spirit of a sketch-this took about 90 mins in painter and photoshiop.

So my favourite 3 pieces are probably

WolfBane's- Great. If this is really a 15 years old WIP, it's sure it's gonna be a masterpiece in a time.

    dan liimatta's- Because it's a cool design

rubicante's- Because of the lovely shading you'd probably focused on and the butterfly scene.. But it reminds the Shrek, of course.. And I hate Shrek Also it really is a turn off, mostly cause of the lips and so And the highest finger is too short, aware
