    Robert Lenkiewicz (1941-2002)

    Hello Folks,

I thought I'd share this here with you guys...My tutor studied under Lenkiewicz for many years, and I got to see a few of his paintings in the flesh before the Gallery closed the exhibition. I was blown away. Many of his paintings are in private collections, and or are sold at a very high price. His most inspirational works are those of Vagrancy in London and Plymouth. His studio at the time, was open to those from the streets; criminals, the homeless, alcoholics, drug addicts and the mentally ill. He painted them alot and recorded their plight. These 'characters' he made come to life through his painting; ordinary people from impoverished backgrounds.

As well as the Vagrancy work, he's done portraits and the female nude. I cant find higher res images, so I pulled what I could from the net. As always, they just dont do this guys work any justice.

I am terribly inspired by Lenkiewicz, here some pics...

i can see why his work's an inspiration for you , Molly, he had an incredible command over depicting light. some of the compositions are amazing.

did he have much success during the time a lot of these seem to have been painted (late 60s/70s/early 80s judging from his appearance in a few)?

edit: found an "official internet site" if interested.

He's a fantastic artist, and i love his 'vagrant' paintings.

I saw a couple of his paintings for sale in a small gallery in Totnes (Devon) a couple of years back. I think one of them was one of these four paintings, the fella in the pea coat and the black hat. It was about 10k i think. If only i'd had the money.... I reckon it'd have been a good investment? Unfortunately, most of us skint artists can't actually afford to buy art!

Jack the burglar in a checked shirt

I am the daughter of 'Jack the burglar in a checked shirt' from Lenkiewicz's addiction/obsession collection.
I have an unseen sketch from before the oil painting if anyone would have any advice for me to get any publicity from it or adding it to his life work this would be greatly appreciated. This is also the only only sketch drawn for somebody as it is signed 'To Suzanne X'. Name: 20130610_111548.jpg
