    Chiken Wings - come-and-get-a-bite sketchbook

    Hello I've been lurking around the sketchbook threads and people here are absolutely amazing!

    3 months ago, right when university applications began, I started taking drawing seriously and decided to go into art (animation). I know it's sort of a late start but I hope I will be able to improve. I am currently 17 and attending the last year of highschool.

    So please do give constructive criticism, I would truly appreciate it.

    Here's the life drawing to begin things off

    For someone who's been "seriously" drawing for 3 months, that's some pretty awsome work

    About fretting over post-secondary... can't you jsut take a gap year? Get a job, maybe travel, LIVE a little before jumping back into acadamia? Just my opinion ... Also, by taking a gap year you'll have that much more time to sharpen your art skills!

    Anyway. Nice anatomy studies there. All I gotta say is that you should worl on drawing feet (I can't draw them for the life of me) and watch out for them torsos and ribcages and pelvises... http://xs412.xs.to/xs412/07093/2007_02_27_2.jpg the chick in the upper left box looks a little broken.

    Other than that, keep it up mate!

    As the pattern gets more intricate and subtle being swept along is no longer enough.

    @bluefruitbowl: Thanks! Wish you best of luck next year as well =] The segments? It makes it easier on myself to understand the structure and all that... and as well as my own amusement, haha

    @n1va: Thanks a bunch!

    @bunny: Thanks for the tips. I'll study anatomy more for sure, hehe. And as for the gap year, yea I'm most likely not going to make it for the program of choice so I'll take a year of art fundamentals and see which areas I will be interested in.

    @ArtZealot: Thank you

    Ahh anyways, sorry for not posting for a couple of days... anyhow, here's a random still life drawing and a drawing of a sheep...

    wow thats insane, to get that good after 3 months of drawing, bravo; heh, no seriously how does one progress that fast. The figures are really good, you've got some great linework going on here. I also really like the lamb.

    keep up the good work

    looks like you've already got a jump start on everyone if you've only been drawing seriously recently. If i were you i would take a year and just work on a really strong portfolio then you'll be guaranteed to get in. I really like your lines, especially on those hands.

    @Dreamworker: Hehe thanks =]

    @Wake101: Actually I *have* been drawing since I was small, but just for fun, doodles and copy of what I see, etc, so I did gain quite abit of copying ability =P

    @FactorZero: Yup, good advice Most likely that's what I'm going to do, go into art fundamentals for a year and check things out as well as sharpening up some creativity.

    And once again.. I've been lazy... Okay it's March break next week, promise promise promise I will draw everyday! >_< So here's some quick studies...

    Building the bodies from inside out.. I mean... from structure.. here's my attempt (with reference)

    Hand study: bones etc

    Hand study: (yellow due to poor camera quality and room lighting *sweat*)

    Lovely drawings of hands... but try to feel the model when you draw. Your life drawings show promise, but line sensitivity is missing. Incorporate a sense of touch.Good luck to you! Come an visit us at Max the Mutt sometime when you're in Toronto.
