Hi, Alex. Thanks a lot for all your posts here. I wouldn't have known this school had you not posted here. I'm a sessions student now, haha.

This school rocks, it simply does. I learned a shitload from all those awesome instructors.

I assume you're not Alex Alvorado, right? Because he told me he doesn't know this website~

    Um. Thanks anyway.

1 Day Seminar Methods and Materials of Oil Paints 8/22/09!

1-day Seminar Methods & Materials of Oil Paints 8/22/09
    Instructor: Steven Saitzyk
    Sat., August 22, 10:00am-5:00pm

After more than 700 hundred years, oil painting is still the ultimate artist's medium. More than any other artist's medium, knowledge of its materials is the key to unlocking its vast potential for expression. Yet, little comprehensive information is readily available, and what is found is often confusing, contradictory, and even shrouded in mystery and secrecy. This one day intensive seminar on oil painting materials offers the kind of in-depth knowledge necessary to explore and tame this medium. It will cover pigments, the five types of oil paint, mediums, additives, thinners, and varnishes. It will also offer solutions to working safely as well as produce artwork that will last for generations.

1-Day Meditation for the Artist Seminar Nov. 21st!

1-Day Meditation for the Artist Seminar 11/21/09

    Instructor: Steven Saitzyk
    Sat., November 21st, 10am-5pm
    $125

LAAFA 3-Year Accredited Entertainment Art and Fine Art Programs

The creative process is inherently contemplative and naturally benefits from meditation. Meditation enhances not only the creative process but also the viewing process in specific ways—it helps to synchronize mind and body, right and left hemispheres of the brain, and our intuitive and intellectual abilities. The mindfulness and awareness practices found in meditation lead us to rest in our senses so we can glimpse things as they are and enjoy genuine spontaneity and pure, unselfconscious, expression. They also dissolve creative blockages and reveal the source of creativity and inspiration. This one day seminar will teach meditation and offer specific contemplative exercises and activities such as non-objective brush and ink painting designed to further awaken your creative and viewing processes. Instructor: Steven Saitzyk. Adjunct Professor of Humanities and Design Sciences, Art Center College of Design. International Director of Shambhala Art, a nonprofit arts education program designed to integrate meditation into the creative process. See: www.shambhalaart.org. He has completed a Buddhist Seminary and has practiced and taught meditation internationally for more than thirty years.

Hi! I hope I can ask questions about LAAFA in this thread. Sorry if that's not what this is for.

    so hi

    1) I've had no previous art instruction and my skills are much inferior to those exampled on your website. May I still enroll in the Atelier, or are only more advanced students accepted?

    2) Am I contractually obligated to remain at the atelier for a full year, or can I enroll for a single quarter and then take a quarter off before returning - or even to postpone indefinitely the fulfillment of the other three quarters? I have enough money for one quarter, you see, but not enough for a full year.

    3) That being the case, would you suggest that I enroll in the Atelier, or would I be able to get more instruction in a shorter amount of time if I purchased a custom program of "class sessions" through the sessions portion of your website?

Thanks so much, your school seems really cool!

    Thanks for your help!!!! Bye!

Haha, Nomnom. Glad you find like the school. It is a pretty cool place anyway.

    For your question:

    1) Almost all of us students can be said to have much inferior skills than the instructors. "Much inferior" is kinda ambiguous you know. But:

    3) I stillstrongly suggest that you take at least one session of Sessions classes before you enroll in the atelier, unless you live abroad of course(get a tourist visa then).

There's nothing like actually taking classes here and talk to students and instructors~

Plus, I think one session of training can add a lot to your portfolio, and give you a much better chance of getting in~

As for 2, I talked about if it's possible to take a quarter of break and join in next quarter, Cindy told me they've never done such a thing before, but it's maybe possible depending on each case. But if you can only afford one quarter, I would think it's kinda hard.

If you have other questions, just ask away. I've only taken one session with LAAFA though, but I'll start the atelier next year. haha~

Good luck, hope to see you there sometime~

Yeah, that would be tough then. I'd have to find sub-$300 monthly lodging in order to afford a whole year at once, instead of taking quarters individually.

    Well thanks for replying anyway
