    Great ones!
I am thinking to move to ink pen drawing, but I am little bit affraid of it actually, definitely not having such confidence in drawing as you do.
    Good concepts >

Siiilon: Heh, I'm not very confident with pens, I usually do some kind of under-drawing with pencils and then erase that.

Ink is good because it lets me quickly concept a quite complex idea without going in too much detail. The medium infantry armour was a flash idea last night, I just sat down and drew this in an hour or so. The coloring will take some more time, but the basic idea with most of the important detail is there.

Awesome armor designs man, I really like that you're doing all this Lord of the Rings stuff, and its cool how your look isn't over influenced by the movies. I really liked the Elf helmets and the Numenorean guard, what do you look at for armor inspiration/reference?

Wolfentir: I have a ton of historical illustrations from Osprey (and other publishers), it's a really huge folder. And I read articles, I look at archeological finds, I read forums about such stuff.

Then it's a matter of figuring out what a culture is like and what kind of gear they'd probably use. I don't copy historical designs, I try to design something that might take bits of these designs or might be completely original, but the important thing is to make it look plausible. Like it could work well.

It's not so exciting as other people's fantasy designs and I'm often told it's boring and too historical looking, but I don't mind, that's what I'm aiming for.

Your Tolkien stuff reminds me of Alan Lee, but I like yours better because it's not so stylized. Keep it up!

    oooh, thank you!

Not sure what you mean by stylized though, I've always loved Lee's paintings and I think his watercolors are quite realistic..

Probably last of the archaic Haradrim.
    1. Young cavalry commander. - his rank is obvious from the officer battle kilt. He bears a typical archaic straight sword, but his helmet is tall with a horsehair plume. Yet it has the engraving depicting an ear and hair - a typical archaic decoration. That means he had it made to look a bit like helmets of the Haradrim from Harondor, but still kept the old style decorations.

    2. This heavy cavalryman uses an infantry helmet with feather plume. It's not uncommon, because it's covered in white cloth to prevent heating up from the sun. He bears a straight sword and his legs are protected by leather greaves.

    3. Light cavalryman in the back uses a combination of a scale skirt and padded-leather cuirass. Beside a spear he bears a battleaxe for a sidearm.

    4. This elite rider is easily recognizable as a former member of the Lion regiment - he's wearing a parade helmet in the shape of a lion's head with a heavy plume as a mane. (there are rumors that the manes were made from hair of their defeated enemies)
Another sign of his veteran status is the sword - a curved scimitar he probably had made while serving in Harondor.

Nice and creepy enviros. I love the digital oils one, with its strong sun-highlights and shadows. Very nice.

talking about eye for details, whoah. Great SB. That last WIP looks great too, I'll love to see it finished. It has some nice motion in it right now, don't get into to many details on the men if you want to keep it. Try to get the feeling of the "hunt" and then add the details. Or... do as you want, I'm not an expert 8)

Jirik: hey, didn't know you were here thanks, I've been trying to work on anatomy lately.

Vloth: thank you. Since the picture is supposed to be somewhat like Angus McBride's work, I won't go into much detail - he didn't overdetail his paintings either.

I just felt there is more to be drawn concerning the archaic Haradrim.
The swords are not up to scale.
    ----------------------------------------
    1. helm of a noble with a cloth cover
    2. veteran royal guard helm (+cloth cap over it)
    3. traditional cloth cap with a family/household knot

    -----------------------------------------------------------

the last piece for Haradrim today.

    1. Young Haradrim noble probably just arrived from a hunt, because he's wearing a hunting skirt. He quickly put on the ceremonial coat to honor the occasion.
    2. A companion of the young noble - probably one of his elite guard - presents a feather from a helmet plume of a defeated enemy. He's just arrived from the battlefield so he still wears a cuirass, but he put on a tiara with the household knot instead of a helmet.

    -------------------------------------------------------

wookiedabo: Thanks, you have a pretty awesome SB yourself!

    Slightly McBride-ish commission piece.
He's probably thinking about the battle he's just been through while bandaging a wounded wrist.

(Damn, it's 4 AM?!! How long did I work on this?)

An entry for Concept Tuesday at ArtOrder (an awesome blog):
    http://artorder.blogspot.com/2009/03...onstructs.html
(scroll all the way down for the description)

"I decided to give the Bromides a slightly satyr-ish look, that tied them to nature a bit more.
The crystal embedded in their chests are used to store sunlight which they use later for growth magic.
The Bromides can change their bodies quite a lot - they can grow additional limbs and they often have more joints than humans - their limbs are also very flexible and elastic, the arched legs allow them to run very fast.
They can modify themselves by planting magical seeds - if they need a strap, a buckle, a piece of clothing or a holder - they just plant a seed and let it grow. Their bodies emit a special kind of resin that can be shaped by their growth magic - that way they can turn their hands into knives or harden their skin. Usually they just grow a sword or a suit of armour (it's less bothersome) - which can be very hard (looking a bit like tree bark) or puffy and composed of cells full of air - for padding.
They also grow brightly coloured moss or heather on their heads. (it's a fashion thing) The flowers on their heads are used for reproduction and can also be used as indicators of their owner's mood."

My submission for the weekly Tuesday Sketch over at ArtOrder:

    Description by Jon Schindehette:

"Next weeks concept comes from Daniel Gelon, my talented next cube neighbor. My brain was fried today and I couldn't think of a decent concept. Daniel said "well, I love undead, demons, and dinosaurs... what about an undead demon dinosaur!" It made me laugh, and a dose of humor is always a good thing. Let's call him Dinogloth, the terror of the mesozoic period! Have a little fun with this one."

Those poor merfolk guys are pretty freaked out by an undead demonic plesiosaurus.

Ian Kel: The last captain under Kiith and the most outgoing guy around. he always has a smile and is very personable with everyone.
Normally found at the Inn or in the marketplace catching up with old war buddies. he normally carries his long spear which was created
for him by kiith as a gift. he wears a layering of mail and leather armor. he is 368 but looks like he is in his mid to late 20s.
he fights side by side with diego and kiith on the battlefield.

    --------------------
Ian Kel is the last character commissioned by Banditks. Finally.
For some reason I painted him enjoying a cup of something hot on a cold winter morning.

Another sketch for ArtOrder's Tuesday challenge!

"This week I want you to pick one of those races - elves, Deva, Tiefling, dragonborn, or this Thursdays race, and cast them far into the future. Envision the race on a planet that is suited to their physical characteristics (i.e. dwarves might be on a high G planet where their low center of gravity and stout frame would be benificial), and think about how they might evolve to fit their new environment even more. Now let's give your race technology, and the ability to travel the stars. What do they look like, their ships, their environment, their cities, their toys? How has the evolution changed the way they fight, love, worship? Are there oddities about their evolution (perhaps they never developed gunpowder or petro-based technology & everything is powered by a funny green rock...or a hamster in a running wheel)? Ask yourself a million questions, and figure out where your race ended up. Now, pick one thing about the race and showcase it - it might be the race itself, a battle cruiser, a city skyline, a childs toy, or whatever else your brain can twist around."

I chose the Tieflings. I'm not very knowledgeable in the DnD lore and this race simply seemed very interesting.
I imagined these heirs to a long lost empire chose very different ways in life. Some travel the world seeking lost traditions and wisdom (2), some breed with other races slowly sinking into depression and decadence (3) and others simply embrace the new world and become gangsters (1).
