CHOW #58 - VOTING - Guest Host: MarcoMazzoni. Topic: Nintendo Hero made real
Nintendo Hero made real - 12 years later
Don't you love the new system? MarcoMazzoni is your bos snow.. and he has a lovely topic for you.
Nintendo Hero made real - 12 years later
In 1995 Nintendo of America officially discontinued the Nintendo Entertainment System and purged their stock of the console. In an oversight that would forever change the world, a new werehouse manager at the Japanese distributer acidentally cleared a batch of "prototype" consoles for shipment in the last wave. Never meant to reach the hands of the consumer, these consoles had the strange ability to bring playable characters from the games to life. By the time Nintendo was able to track down and incinerate all 800 of the anomalous consoles it was too late. An estimated 23,000 NES playable characters had materialized into our world. Due to the quantity of systems and popularity of certain games, many of these are duplicates of the same character.
12 years have passed since the incident and the government has made all possible effort to integrate these characters into our society. While many have made the best use of their powers in our world, some still struggle to adapt.
Your task is to redesign a playable NES character showing how they have adapted or are stuggling to adapt to the limitations of our reality. What are the possibilities of having several duplicates of one character? There are no video game villans to do battle with, but there are still many uses for heroes of extrordinary ability in our world. But remember not all playable characters are necessarily concidered heroic. for every Samus or Link, there is also a Qbert and Chef from Burger Time... or the marble from Marble Madness!
It can be any playable character, but it MUST be from the original Nintendo Entertainment System.
1 = Playable NES character
2 = 12 years later
3 = REAL

For the next topic I'm going to go with Nanotech Gardener as suggested by cognition.sb
Oblio goes on:
well.. some of the entries rejected - or close to rejection

I drew this while thinking about Strider, but I don't think my "real world" conversion took him very far from his game. anh.
ok, switched topics to Bomberman. Role-reversal: now he's working on the bomb squad, defusing instead of planting. I'll get this guy polished up on Sunday:

Simon Belmont - "Bat" Hunter
Hi. Here´s my first WIP.
As legendary vampire hunter, Simon Belmont; the only job opportunity he could think of in 2007 was as a bat "exterminator".
"Getting rid of those evil beasts, with holy power"... is printed in many flyers he´s handed on the streets of Bucarest. Since he always carries those good ol´ holy water bottles with him, he´s also rumored to have been practicing daytime exorcisms. House mom´s just love calling him to get rid of sometimes "non-existent" bats in the attic... wonder why that is?

OK, it's showing up on my computer. Let me know if anyone sees an "X"
Decided to make a U-turn and do Mega Man instead. Went with something of a communist propaganda poster.
Mega Man (or Mega MEN, as there are over 2,100 of them) has adapted better than any of the other materialized NES characters. Despite his childlike demeanor, he is a shrewd business man. He imediately recognised the government's interest in his technology, and began selling several hundred of his bodies to them under the newly formed Mega Man Union. The Union also contracts Mega Men for combat use and their unique power-ups make them a perfect candidate for alternative fuel research. Thier price is unknown at this time, but it is believed to be somewhere in the high billions. Their incresed influence in governmental descision making has become more apparent in recent years. This has raised many red flags among government watchdogs, but many concpiracy theorists believe it may already be too late. Mega Man is already in control.

Disregard this entry as I didn't read the brief correctly and therefore deserve to be kicked in the nuts.
Poor old Yoshi couldn't get by, so he had a breakdown, got a sex change and started working as a stripper.
this is all I have time for this week.
here's a colour version anyway

Really fun COW theme this week, had fun working on it, some really funny stuff posted. I couldnt post WIPS due to a broken scanner, hope its ok.
Dig Dug had no problem adjusting to a different world. He found himself a vocation with which he could continue practicing his air pumping talents, pest control. His techniques have been said to be extremely effective, but some have called them quite controversial. His booming business and lust for exploding critters have helped him adjust to this completely new world sucessfully.

You first knew them as the Mario Brothers, the terror of the Koopa. Once in the real world, they started working in sewers. 25 years later, weed, beer and ska reagge music have changed our heroes. They are now known as the Rude Bros...
Nutter your sketch is really cool!!!! I ve been laughing all day long!!!!!

Nutter - Love it. Might just get my vote.
Marco Mazzoni - Incredibly good rendering. Good concept too!
After a slow career of plumbing, carpentry and wrestling, Mario finally became the host of his very own talkshow, The Super Mario Bros Super Show. Luigi, as the one-man-orchestra of the show, would every week greet the audience with the theme song "Do the Mario". The show is currently in it's fifth season.

Hey guys. Had to do Link. I guess from Zelda 2, since it had to be on the original NES. He couldn't adapt to our world and spends all his time playing video games. Now he loves the Wii version of Zelda, since its as an escape to a "better time".
Ok, this is my final now....
Not to rain on anyone's parade, but some of those guys either weren't on the original NES, or weren't playable characters. But hey, they look awesome! Well, except Yoshi, he looks sick. Good sick, but sick! You may need professional help, Nutter!

My first CHOW. Been stalking, but never finished anything. I'll be stoked just to make it to the vote.
When Karnov materialized in the real world, he ended up a professional wrestler, becoming on of the most popular champions for 7 years. Meanwhile he used his money to study law, learning how politics works in the U.S. He championed the civil rights of Artifical Sentient Beings, passing several anti-discrimination laws. Soon he parlayed this into a seat in the Senate. Hopes to be President of the United States one day, if only the Constitution allowed.

Will update it if I have time, but for now:
If you've ever played the game you'll know that the Excite Biker loves to get tore up. Having made the transition without his bike, this masochistic character is always looking for other opportunities to inherit some scars.

There are some nice entries so far. Chuck,mate, I'll never be able to look at Mario the same again.
My entry depicts Luigi as a desperate junkie, whose luck ran out long ago. Due to the popularity of Super Mario Bros, many duplicate Marios and Luigis were created. However, fame, fortune and glory were available for only one Mario, and one Luigi. The rest were spread around the globe, and experienced various degrees of success and failure. Some managed to assimilate into society, others failed miserably. In a world where their abilities are now useless, many turned to drugs, alcohol, and crime, living out their last days in a self-destructive stupor.
Other ideas I had included: Pimp Luigi, Drug-Lab Luigi, Mob-enforcer Luigi, and Prostitute Princess Peach.
Any feedback would be appreciated!

Took a shot at the main character of Ghosts'n'Goblins, Arthur.
He works as a mannequin for underwear in Seattle. And he's pretty successful at it.

Looks like the princess has used her talents well. She now owns the most prestigious Bordello in the western hemisphere.
As we once knew her..

Thought I would throw in a quick one.
Scientists discovered that Bub and Bob from bubble bobble are able to quickly convert just about any liquid into harmless bubbles. 12 years, how sad...

One MegaMan Army
Of all the characters to appear during The Nintendo Advent, none was more sought after than cybernetic boy-hero, MegaMan. While the agency responsible for character protection did their best to guard this particular sub-group, they weren't completely successful. Rogue states, terrorist organizations and PMCs (private military contractors) scrambled to get their hands on their own MegaMan and a few succeeded. MegaMan's mimetic abilities allowed it to scan and replicate any form of hardware it destroyed, making it the most desirable of WMDs. While many allowed their individual MegaMan units to retain their personality software, the more unscrupulous ones had their hard drives erased, turning them into grinning, soulless weapons of inifinite destructive capability.

General Admiral Samus Aran:
Updated profile: 12 years ago, Samus rent to the most brightest militia scientist to allow them to examine and clone her suit to the best of their abilities. After reaching success of a human modified suit, Samus broke into the facilities and took her suit back, along with the suits and all research data. Now, after 12 years, she is the general admiral of the strongest and most secretive army for hire. Only thing known as of today, is that she resides in an unknown location with her long time lover David.

Lakitu, taken under the wing of Nintendo, came to work for them in a quiet programming job, shielded from society and the public eye.
I know I'm two minutes late, my computer froze on me as I was DESPERATELY trying to upload this to photobucket...
