hey everyone, im pretty new here, and i figured id start one of these badboys up. my name is eric tran, im an art student and im working hard to impress.
ill start this off with my newest design: something that could be seen in the next newest quake game ( my favorite ) I call him the "energizer strogg" because of the amount of energy stored inside his lifeless body that is discharged through his arm weapon.
trying to resolve some rendering while looking at carlos huantes work, as well as puddnhead and im also trying to learn how to combine what both of them do and make my own style of painting. i noticed puddnhead sometimes loses the linework underneath so i try not to lose those important lines
Hey welcome to CA!
I really like this especially how youve done his skin. I look forward to seeing it finished!
thank you cubix
as far as it being "finished", i consider it finished as a bust concept. all the information is there, if youre referring to the sloppy background i dont think its really important to refine that seeing that the creature is fully detailed. i dont know, but i do thank you! lots of hours went into the textures as they were all done by hand
Nice start man! I like your rendering with pencils, I hope to see more drawings soon!
Keep sharing, cheers
envisor - thanks for the input and i plan on posting once a week so stay tuned
dreamworker - thank you! your pencil work is nice too
thanks but im not sure if you should post a comment like its "odd" without explaining further so i understand what you mean. its an odd creature yes, but i dont see it being any more "odd" than your paintings
here are some pages from my sketchbook, random scribbles, sorry for bad scans they are actually digital photos
Welcome to CA. Great work sofar. Let's see more.
thanks for stopping by
kischi - thanks man stop by any time, ill update soon
daraf - thanks, stick around
Nice Sketchbook pages. You seem to have a comic style. Would love to see some longer original character studies. Lovin the 2nd page in the sketchbook, that creature/ zombie thing is awesome.
i just wanted to try a different technique. i dont know how carlos huante works and what brushes he uses really. i dont have his dvd unfortuantely because gnomon sent me a defective one and isnt helping me return it. however this is a small example of me trying to figure out the oil technique from scratch. i just took my drawing and tried coloring it a different color. does this look like its similair to the technique?
yeah i know what you mean. still trying to refine my craft. thanks for stoppin by
i did some drawings that i intend to paint. ill do a step by step also for one of them, heres the pencils
. the ritualist dude at the bottom is just scanned from my sketchbook, i used a mechanical pencil for him
i forgot these dudes too!
totally whacked out monster...sick...love it.
envisor- thanks for stoppin by always a pleasure
hardsoapscum- =) thank you i always wanted a chick with a pulsating alien attached to her bowels
thirdeye- thanks, thats a big compliment. huante is one of my favorites
razorb- thank you. i try to show expression through body language
your stuff is cool. interesting designs. I can definitely see carlos haunte as a influence. He always keeps things so dark and just throws a little highlight here and there. he also tends to have that warmer blue for the creatures and then cooler blue for lighter areas. More please.
awsome drawings, really love those creatures.

thanks so much guys, i have a new painting on the way, i think youll like it. i really appreciate the feedback. its inspiring, really. i thank you all again.
really nice! me like it.
Really digging your pencils.....this is my fave, the awkwardness of her feet is mint!
Will you be painting this one?
Keep them coming
thanks dtran- youre a great artist. and to answer your question, i do plan on painting her but as of right now im painting my hell grunt. here PROGRESS. slow slow progress haha. more of less finished the head, working on the body now. heres a head-cut-off so you can see it without the distraction of the unfinished body. of course ill go back into it when im done rendering the whole thing.
