VilleK's Sketchbook - noT updated daily

    Hi!

I just registered but I've been browsing these forums for ages. I'm a long time member at Sijun but I hadn't been able to get my self-esteem high enough to post in here. I feel very out of place amongst all the great artists but my friend half-forced me to register and put up a sketchbook. So here it is.

They're not chronologically arranged as I didn't want to put the worst work first.

New image. I first I made this in grayscale and tried to colour it afterwards with disastrous results.

I feel very out of place amongst all the great artists
    *cough*

I´ve seen that second image before, in cgtalk maybe, and went right to the "images to be seen more carefully" folder.

Nice to see you here. 8)

The colours bothered me so much that I had to post this grayscale version too.
It's a bit dark as I had some weird issues with photoshop presets.

Sick tonal control. You've obviously put a lot more into this work than you give yourself credit for.

    Thanks folks!

Sorry I haven't posted in a while. I got my first illustration assignment ever! I'm so excited and I just can't hide it...

I've completed half of the task and decided to let out some steam by painting something else for a change. My view on a character from Finnish national epoch, 3,5 hours.

    Cheers!

    I'm curious, who is it?
He just seems so foreign... hard to imagine him in those stories... Awesome drawing, though. I guess that's why I want to know who it is.

    Guys, thanks for comments!

I decided to start practising 3d modeling as it seems that game companies don't employ artist that do only 2d, or it might be just in my case . I'll show my first model as soon as it's finished. Other than that I've been busy with school and two freelance illustrations which I can't show for the NDA.

Jens> thanks I like to think so too.

    affluxing heart> I'm flattered, thanks a lot!

varmayour> I use photoshop, my files are usually 4000 pixels high tops.

dmitri> he's Lemminkäinen the Islander. He might seem foreign if you compare him to the milk-boy seen in Finnish Nationalist paintings, but according to Kalevala he had coal black locks.

    asoir, callops and everyone: thanks!

This time I can only offer you this brainless 2-hours sketch. Drawing is fast if you don't put much though in it.

    Wow dude, very inspiring work!
Your value structure are impeccable and your burshwork is amazing.
Love it all, dig your approach to fantasy subjects - feels more mature than most, reminds me of cos konoitis a bit.
Great thread, keep it alive and have 5 more!
    cheers!
