********* Please check out the end of the thread for more recent work *********

Hello there! Name's Trevor, been a long time browser, but don't tend to post much.

I'm not great on these intro things... anyways, I'm 16... err scratch that, 17, scratch that too, 18. Haha, scratch that, I am now 19 and living in Bradford. Ontario, Canada. I love to draw/sketch and am really into photography/film/web and graphic design. I have no idea what I want to do in life, other than something related to one of the aforementioned art forms.

    So... voila.

    Comments/crits/replies always welcome!

I apologize beforehand for low-quality scans, I might as well be taking photos of my work, it may come out looking sharper!

First group of sketches, done today and yesterday. They seem a lot sharper in real life.

yea dude! great stuff going on here! you have a good anatomy base and your
rendering is very nice. just keep bringin the goods my man.
one thing i will say is to watch the thibk outlines, it can (not always) flatten the image and you'll loose depth. at the same time it can work in your favour so just watch how you use it.
really great start sir, well done

Nice, some of your character type sketches are coming along well. I like the mech type one, you should finish the bottom half off as it looks real good so far. Jus keep drawing if thats what you want to do

And a few more I took shots of last night before heading off to watch Smokin' Aces.

It would suck to fall on a chainsaw, I must say.

I also did these two creatures I'm really proud of, approximately 30-45 minutes each. This is why I love pen so much more than pencil

Hello there! Awesome sketches dude, especially those last ones, I love em. You're pretty damn good for an 16 year old, so why not like, take a break from drawing, lets say, for a year or two hmm hmm? You don't need practise, you're already good, right! Please?

No, forget that. I just have to draw more myself. You, keep rocking.

Hey man, good imagination, you've got some pretty sweet sketches. Its good to see your drawing so much. I really like the two you drew in pen...makes me consider trying something other than a pencil.

I use a PENTEL ENERGEL needle tip roller ball.... I can get nice line quality with it, it looks similar to what you are using there.

    Heya Minja,

this is a very nice start of a sketchbook! I wonder; do you have a figure drawing book of some sort? Try to draw some Loomis, Hogarth, Bridgeman, you know those studies ^^ they will help you get the proportions even better.
I love your creatures, you really show quite some creativity there. Your figures are nice, very dynamic. But try to get the proportions better (they're not hugely off, but just sometimes just enough to not be correct), do lots of ref studies and maybe life drawing, if that's a possibility for you at the moment.
Try to spend some more time on faces, from all angles. A face is usually the fist thing people look at in a drawing, so it's kinda important I guess .
Also, I don't know if you have a tablet, or access to paints and brushes, but try some stuff in colour! ^^ I recently found out that working in different mediums both digitally and traditionally can turn out very nice. I found out that I like painting traditionally (with acrylics or oils), and I like working with ink and markers, I also found out that I don't like watercolours, charcoal, and gouache paint that much ^^.
Ah well, I hope my post has been a bit useful to you..
I also wish I had your skills when I was your age (which was approximately two months ago since I just turned seventeen hehe), and I still wish to have them now hihi

keep it up and post a lot
    Love,
    Marleen

Awesome stuff. Love your crosshatchy-shadey-liney-quality. Wow. I can speak. And most of it is pen work! Have any color work on you?

Noë: Thanks, that was indeed very useful to me. I used to draw from life a lot but I admit I have been slacking off quite a bit lately. I don't have a very good technique, I just know the basic placement of shapes/muscles, and I draw it until it looks good (in my mind, which could often be wrong ). I really need to pick up a book though, I'll look into the ones you suggested. Thanks!

bluefruitbowl: Thanks, much appreciated I don't actually have any color work on me. I never really digitally painted before, even though I had a wacom tablet available to me for years I am starting though No traditional stuff either, thats always pen or pencil stuff. Thanks for the reply, and your painting this morning was awesome, loved the colors, til that dumbass came in and deleted all the layers... grr.

This is my first real digital painting, other than my previous doodles in sketcher. This was done in sketcher, I am really impressed by it, the smudge tool is awesome, Photoshop's always screws my work up. About twenty minutes in sketcher.

Great work! There's a lot of motion in some of these, particularly in post #7.
While you seem to have a basic grasp on anatomy, I agree with Noe that some studies could push it a bit further. Bridgeman and Hogarth would probably be right up your alley too.

And on a side note, I noticed you live near Toronto? If you can get out to the city, Bobby Chiu has free subway sketch sessions every sunday(?). I've never actually been to one, but Bobby's a great artist, and it seems like a fantastic opportunity for some life drawing on the cheap. More info HERE.
Hope that helped, Keep it up!

    Daraf: Thanks for the reply

Cup of Joe: Thanks man, I heard about those sessions a while ago, should be fun, too bad I can't drive yet or I'd be out there Grr. If I had gone for my G1 on my birthday, I'd have had my G2 early December.. but no, I had to wait... my 17th is coming up in just over a month and still haven't gone for drivers test

    I should probably go soon

    Thanks again!

Oh, and I attempted to color this thing for about 30 minutes tonight... I don't know much about coloring but I think its an alright start.
