This is an illustration I did for Spectrum 14 and Expose 5. When I was a kid, I always loved those adventure stories and movies--especially the ones that take place undersea. This is what inspired me to paint this piece.
This piece is called "An Unexpected Visitor"

Tell you what -- I go diving all the time, and there's not one time that I do *not* feel like that's about to happend to me. Both exciting and sort of scary at the same time. Although it did happend to me once, with a whale shark. Close enough to a sea serpent, lol.
Love the art by the way.
Good to see it finished great work, although I still think the big flippers that are the serpents hind legs are a bit strange...
I think this is urely breath taking, from concept throught to finality it screams 'professionalism'. I hope you send this to major animation studios, this could make a wonderful story, real nostalgic of the likes of petes dragon, sword in the stone and likewise. kinda like Pete Dragon meets Abyss.
amazing sense of scale! somethig about big sea serpents in the water scares the shit outta me! nice design.
Hey guys, Thanks for the replies!
Sleep_Eden_sleep- WOW. That's insane!..I could only imagine what it feels like to go down ther..but I wish I could go diving as often as you!
Here are some of my WIP:
It all started from an image I saw in my head just before going to bed. I just had to sketch it quickly before sleep..
As a kid, I've always been fasinated by adventure stories and films--especially the ones that take place undersea. And so I pictured my diver discovering something enormus in the black abyss..
Here are some sketches of what I pictured the sea dragon may look like..
One of my quick colored sketches..
This picture is a rough sketch of my final..
And this one is a quick sketch, thinking about mood and color pallete.
I love your work!! This is another exceptional piece the wip is awesome, thanks for showing!

Stunning piece Kei, your digipaints keep improving in leaps and bounds! Thanks for sharing the process as well, always love seeing how a painting come to fruition.
One issue that bugged me at the very least on the compositional level is that the girl is hardly visible being so dark against the dark corals. At first glace i almost missed her completely until i followed the dragon's gaze. Personally, I'd think that some of those empty patches/holes in the coral couldve been used to enhance her silhouette or maybe adding some more lights (such as the glow from the creature's eyes) to make her stand out. The yellow of her scuba tank and the flashlight were good helping touches, but i dont think they were quite enough.
sent you a private message regarding this design.
may be of interest to you from promotional point of view
A Beautiful one!
I especially love the construction of your idea and sketches.
cool painting! nice scale!
Life is a long lesson in humility.
mravka- Thanks so much Viktor!
SirGreenSock- Thanks! Yeah as with the darkness I don't know if you're seeing the version I'm seeing..I looked at it from a bunch of other friend's monitors and some of them did appear alot darker. So I think its the monitor settings. But here's a version that appeared close to normal in the darker monitors..
rook1983- Thank you for the message, I sent you an email
AgAtA- Thanks! Glad you like it!
