    New work (nudity)

    Hi CA,
A couple of new pieces in a different style than I've shown before (in my sporadic posting history hereabouts). Been doing a lot of work with photography lately, but on the worthy recommendation of the mighty Mon/Snygg incorporated some painting into my photoshoppery.

    Thanks for looking!

I love the mix of illustration and a more solid, "graphic" style. Wonderful texture, too.

I think you've really got something going here Jon. I think the second piece would do better with some more rendering of the figure's torso especially around the shoulder/breast/rib area. It feels a little too loose especially in comparision to the above piece.

Great work as always :-) Lets see more :-)

fucking GREAT! the only thing that bothers me is that face in the second one... the oddness could be by choice but I'm not quite sure...

So mon recommended you to incooperate paint? I think thats a good advice because the paint really makes those special and more alive. I don't think that a photograph would have the same effect here.

do you have any more work to show us?

    Thanks folks!

Fireflights - I'm quite new to the design side of things, and I'm hoping to.. I dunno, bust out of my well worn groove a little bit with these. Thanks!

Yanner - fanks mate! I shoudl have posted these the other way around. The second one was done first, and was really a prototype kind of moment. On the second one it dawned on me if I spent longer on it I could make it better. It sounds really stupid but I often lose focus, and also have a weird affection for slabby paint which I'm trying to over come.

Ben - thanks! I used some reference for these, and took my time on the drawing, so I'm glad it showed.

    stalsby - thanks!

Zaknafain - yeah I kinda dig that stretched out face...but its not very realistic, eh? Yeah good ole Mon knows his stuff. I'll update as soon as I have more stuff worth showing. I'm trying to make a piece a day or thereabouts, alongside my mainstay commercial stuff. If you're really interested I have a collection of work here: http://jonhodgson.deviantart.com/ which kinda charts the progress towards these. If you can cope with a dA gallery...

    Thanks again guys, appreciated.

Wow, Jon...lightbulb moment, man! I think you're really on to something! I love the painterliness. Painterliness? Is that a word? Ack. Anyway, inspiriting. Truly.

Agreed the graphic style of these is wicked. The loose images and thick textures look incredible with the slick graphic design. Post more ASAP! : )

Thanks guys! I really appreciate the support. I was really hopeful that I would have a new piece done to show, but other work commitments have had to take priority today. But soon there will be more.

I absolutely adore that second work. Any chance of some process shots?
