I'd say it's a safe bet that goddesses are okay, judging from the lack of description, it's probably pretty open.
Okay, for the sake of keeping this post a little smaller, I'll hold off on the process shots until the end, but the ones I'd posted already will be in the Members Exclusive section, in my sketchbook (linked in my signature), and there are even more process shots at The D/L Blog (which is also linked in my signature).
Full resolution detail...
G'night!! Enjoy the CHOWder!
Well, I'm going to have to call it quits on this one... there some things I would've liked to work out further, but I'm still happy with it. So this is the final! I saved a toooon of iterations, so I'll post a step-by-step deal either tomorrow or next week, depending on what my time looks like.
It's been a while since I painted like this digitally, so the rendering and whatnot was a blast. It was also an excersize in how much I could do without reference... the silouhettes of the birds were referenced, and her solar-plexus area was reffed as well:
The Goddess of Art:
Maya (means Illusion), the Goddess of illusion and desire. She is reborn with every inspiration, living entire lives in the moment it takes us to have an epiphany. Her jewels are the symbols and essence of thought and wisdom, illusion and desire, action and execution; they hold the power of the muse. Her birds are that of passion and hope, pain and torment. Born of inspiration, she has many faces and many forms, she is the artist's hope, and the artist's anguish; she is the reason we can't not draw, paint or sculpt. She is the reason the inspiration flows in, and the inspiration must flow out...
Nonetheless, I'm gonna treat this as practice, here's my WIP, hopefully something different. I have no idea how to finish this painting, how do u guys decide what's finished and what's not? some advice if possible please?
Note: I'm asking silly questions because I've only started painting 2 weeks ago, but everyone says my work seems unfinished, and I dun understand how to 'finish' them...
Vision & Muse
The twin deities of Vision and Muse work together as the light and dark sides of inspiration. When artists take joy and create easily, Muse is in control. However, when an artist is tormented by their creative drive, painting all night instead of much needed sleep, Vision is at fault.
ok, here's the final
I would appreciate any critique to help me improve.
Okay, This is what I've come up with, I swear...around all of you I feel like a child. Nevertheless it just wouldn't be proper form to throw in the towel, so here goes...
This is the godess of art, summoning her muses to assist her in inspiring artists of all ages ( Including the five year old who drew the background ^.~) .
I guess my thinking on this was to go for something fresh and stylistically sketchy ( not an actual sketch as I spent a bit more time on this...) Like something that you'd draw if you just got a fresh pack of colored pencils. I tried and I know it may not be on par with the rest of your entries but I'm still happy with it.
Ok... thought I'd finally jump in... Long time watcher (read: chicken) first time entering any of the OW activities. WIP below... Still a lot of bugs to be worked out but hopefully I can get it wrapped up by Sunday.
Here's the most final he's gonna get. Fun activity... I'll definitely give it a shot again. Oh, and a quickie brief:
One of the few old gods to survive the global cultrual purges of the 24th century, Q'tzal returned to favor after the world economy crashed. Their oppressors powerless, the new Pantheon returned to the minds of men. Q'tzal is stripped of all but the memory of the fantastical feathered dragon he once was. Fitful and shiftless, he wanders the realms of the subconscious and inspiration ebs and flows at his passing. He carries with him one of the four dying embers of the Universal Truth (the others rest in the hands of Ishtar (Love), Apolyon (Knowledge) and Charon (Death)). Of the four, Q'tzal's shard is the greatest, for the God of Art unwittingly carries with him the secrets of immortality.
Art is very subjective, sometimes for a piece work of art, people can respond totally different, for example abstract painting, one can highly praise it and considered it's beautiful, and other people can just simply said the painting is ugly.
art is evolving, with the digital technology artists discovering a new medium, and thus come an are where work of art divided into a 'traditional' works and 'digital' works, by the method of producing it
based on above reasoning i created my god of art concept.....
Since before the Dawn of Time there has been Mr. Biscuit. The embodiment of everything art, Mr. Biscuit has stood vigil for millions of years with nary a shower or a good nights sleep. A blank stare confronts you when you look at his pale and sunshrouded skin, a look of belittling contemplation...but he's really just thinking about whether he mixed his whites in with the right laundry load.
His hands are comprised of a thousand fingers, one for every color imaginable, bruised and bulbous after years of abuse. Long since retired from his main duties, given up to Thomas Kinkade several years ago, he resides in Muttonhog Pastures writing bitter tales of pissy schoolmarms and butterflies, and takes tea and crumpets around half past four every other tuesday.
So this is the 'final'...lot i wanna touch up but probably wont be able to ho hum!
Everyones got some great entries this week! Can't wait to see em all tomorrow!
As a demi-God of aesthetics, Tamaki was an artistic spirit. She created flourishing worlds at whimsy, but her peers grew jealous of her talent. One evening while she lay dormant they dropped the essence of fear onto her tongue. This infiltrated her dreams and she encountered a beast so terrifying she gouged out her own eyes.
Tamaki awoke the Goddess of Dark Art. Detached from the world she endeavours to recreate her dream, but without sight the content changes upon every depiction. Now she spawns all things horrific. Things which cannot even be looked upon without being paralysed by fear.

I've first thought about a baby (young) which has no influences of the world at all, but a god should be someone a little older I think. Someone who can control it's power. So I chosed for a youngster image.
As for the gender I picked a boy which looks a little girly. That's because I think the "God of art" shouldn't be atlethic at all.
The drawing equipment of the artist are important. That's why I gave them a golden shine. Furthermore some weird things what makes people think "wtf?"
Although the colour scheme isn't quite what I was shooting for, I am pleased with the overall design. Something god-like, but with flair. Let me know what you guys think. Critique is encouraged and welcomed.
There are some real nice entries here, but also quite a few unfinished ones, which is a real shame.
I like b-nine, cognition, mrgrumble, troy and phuzion, also some nice comic relief from Thst, although it took me a while to figure out what was going on. Chuck, nice rendering but I've seen a lot better from you.
