Daily Dosage of Decapitation (March 23rd...nother quick update)

time to start a sketchbook..I dont get the opportunity to do much character stuff but its more interesting to me and I need to do more of it. So hoping to update this every week with a lot of head drawing/paintings - just B/W stuff for now, etc...and maybe some color down the line.
    crits very welcome

The most striking to me is the head on the top left, because the face is so much paler than the rest of the drawing. Good shadows going on the face on the bottom left, too.

Very nice technique. Somehow the technique seems to match the characters themselves. Very lovely. *crit*The middle cowboy's head seems a bit unfinished, like his eyes are possible receded in shadow, but not quite defined... same witht he bottom lefts head, the other heads eyes are a bit more finished despite there possible being less work, thats all though Keep it up

Daily Dosage of Decapitation (weekend update)

Thanks guys - heres a bunch more I did today...was a slow day at work....

Jolliday - yes, that one is definitely not from the same groups as the others - I had done that some time before and took a litte more time and decided to just put it in the sketchbook with the rest.

Stormcrow -good point - the eyes are something I play around with too much - I define the pupils, and it starts looking cut out..so I tone it down a bit..and back and forth...as you can see I did that with some in this batch too...have to work on that

    anyway - some more then...

Those are some great looking speed paints and I love your portraits too. When you are doing your head paintings are you generally using reference ( apart from the ones where you cited the reference)?

Hello Rascar! I really enjoy your characters and your way around using colors! If you don't mind me asking, I was wondering a few things about your first set of characters, though. What program did you use? Which tool (mainly)? Did you use ref, and how long (aprox) did you spend on them?
    Thanks!

    thanks all
As for the questions about the portraits -they are not referenced (unless stated so) I use the square conte in Painter most of the time set at the second to last firmest level on my wacom settings. It's nice and chunky and gives you that sculpted look with the planes - (at least I hope so...) and around 15-20 min or so each...
anyway - some more cartoony stuff, thats the last of my old crap in my hardrive which I posted on laborganicka some time ago...thanks again

Meatsworthy - same here - I have several of your stuff in my sketchbook folder - and very informative too, pleasure to go through your SB thread.

CGOZ - nice too see you in here too
