Icon PIRAKHA - Concept Thread (current image count: 30)

Good evenin' dudes and dudettes. Me, Blanquish, Zanconato and Dile (maybe more to come...? ) are working on this concept idea that works as a project.
This is really cool, as it make us work together as a team, where we create background, story, and ofcourse, awesome conceptart.

Everything is still work in progress, so i dont want to reveal any big details just yet. Just that its on world that has torn itself apart (literaly), and is now scattered into pieces of land, gently orbitting the planets core.

I'd like this thread to be a source of inspiration, aswell as motivation for our members. And also a place where we discuss and compare eachothers ideas. But mostly work as the projects sketchbook, where we post our latest doodles.

Take a look at the conceptart that we've done so far:

    – PIRAKHA –

For countless eons ago… When the planet was one firm piece of land, and the mighty beasts now roaming the air, was drifting beneath the great ocean. When men had no intentions for war and devestation. When wise, old men ruled the green surface with peace and prosperity. When the three great nations were together, under one embossed banner. When we, the race of men was engulfed in glory and harmony, a terrible incident occurred…

As swift as the northern wind, the great ball of fire, were thrown down from the skies with fierce violence. Under a blanket of fiery and destruction, our world was quickly torn apart. All that was left, was a fainth image of a lost civilization. Gently, as the pieces of land started to orbit around the core from our abandoned world, a small illusion of hope appeared.

A handful of surviving men and women from the devided nations somehow managed to find shelter within the ruins of their crushed homeworld. Devided and forgotten, the three factions known as the Rama to the north, The Falkerion Empire to the east, and the mysterious Huitzil from the south, struggled to hold onto the little they had left. But then, a new discovery was made…

From the very essense of what had destroyed them in the first place, they found hope.
A new resource was obtained from floating remains of the great meteorite, containing huge amounts of energy, the three races took them without hesitating. As the years passed on, and years turned to decades, and decades turned into centuries, their valuable resource started to drain empty. And the desperate factions of men started taking drastic measures to ensure their survival. And so the Uroboros Wars started…

Hey TheGnoll... We thought so as well first... but it will still be more like a concept art- sketchbook, not so much work in progress the whole thing is WIP but not the stuff we will post, mainly And really, compare how many people who is looking at the WIP now with how many is in the Sketchbook section

    99 vs 307

    some creature designs( text later)
Just a general question to the "public", do you prefer these designs, over the shark riders?
Invincible Wonbat(above), I like what I am seeing, looks good so far, but my suggestion is to get some texture overlayts in there( mayang.com), tighten up the details a bit, soften the clouds a tad also.
Also, both the environments have been small in scale. Sure, small chunks are flying around, but gigantic ones too.
    just an observation..

    these are embarrasing

Doing great on environments. And also loving the character studies. Would like to see more of both. Would also like to see a city environment.

    My Sketchbook- C&C very welcome

Cool stuff to start guys. One question though, all the environments are virtually the same, and really don't show much variation. Also, all you've shown in the enviros are the planet crust, rather than the actual planet pieces.

Awesome project idea though guys! Awesome stuff.

invinciblewombat-latest environ has a nice mood!

WOlfbane- like it pritty nice touch with the ruins there.

blanquish- like your drawing style, has a nice quality over it,like the last ones, also shark sketch is awesome!

Zanconato-cool concept, kinda ancient armor style!
keep in mind some of wolbanes concepts have pistols..and machineguns, so atleast give your guy a shield

Ive been working on something of plant life and random creatures.

As said in the story above ^, it's been countless eons ago since the planet first shattered... and all the pieces not from the planet crust soon found themself growing with grass and plants, so you cant really see the difference, if there is any

    wow.

whoa! john (wombat) showed me this stuff the other day. i love this kind of stuff, colab work is great!.its looking awesome so far. dont get freaked out but it reminds me of this game called project nomads http://www.project-nomads.de/. you're guys project is still in its infancy so its not too big of a deal. just remember to dig up some cool reference to help bring life to your designs. right now everything is relatively well produced (drawn, painted) but theres very little design going on. only one of your enviro's show scale (kudos to wombat).i would suggest putting in scale so other artist can understand what you're work. also, telling more story with your designs might help out a bit. a pretty drawing is nice to see but its the story that makes me drool

wolfbane- mad skillz dude! i love the 3/4 views of the murdo... guy. the enviros or looking a little flat, unless thats intentional (ie diablo or baldur's gate style) i would add some more interesting angles and colors. very cool stuff bro! keep it coming and dont forget the sketches.

zanconato- pretty interesting concept to bring to the table as far as the roman-looking outfit. keep pushing bro. work on those proportions.

blanq- nice sketch! but where's the saddle? sharks are pretty slippery. i'd be nervous if i were those guys.

john- i thought the first enviro was sweet, but when i saw that latest one i was like damn.. its looking really nice! it has nice depth, cool colors, good subtle use of texture, overall a good one for you bro. remember to put in SCALE, that shit is really important. also, you're slacking off in some parts of the image. don't do that! slack off in your sketches, not your renders. which reminds me...

you guys need to post sketches!!! it doesn't matter if they're WIP, they're your best tool of communicating with other artist. jumping right to these kickass renders is fun but sketching is how you develop your designs. dont forget to sign your shit too. im pretty jazzed about this, its looking really cool so far. keep pushing you guys!

    -ryan
