Did you consider using custom brushes that you would made (even in painter)?
for exemple for vegetation...it would add very easily some crispyness to those enviros...which as it have been pointed out look different than your creature work..(which is really great!)
Hey just did the same one this morning yours turned out pretty good I think. However, I think the grainy texture in the brush does hurt the image a bit as it draws a lot of attention. I remember the sea being a bit more green as well.
One thing that might help actually is scaling them down a bit to like 600/700 pixels after you finish them, I find they're often better to look at than at the original size. Keep em coming

it works pretty much like photoshop...
open a blank canvas...draw the custom dab you want for your brush...exemple tree leaves... select the drawing...go to your brush menu (where you usually save variants and stuff)....you'll find Captude Dab...click it and that's it, you brush is painting tree leaves...
play with angle jitter, size jitter then....
Your creatures are wonderful! I think you show your fantastic sense of form and color very well through them. You have some really nice brushwork in those paintings too(this for eg:http://www.conceptart.org/forums/att...8&d=1200720748) But it seems like you don't carry over the same brushwork in your environments, Now I don't really do environments either but I think yours would greatly benefit from a little more experimentation. Don't be shy!
Looking forward to seeing more!
