One thing I loved about this thread is the sea of change in style. I liked your last sketchbook, but this one, it really deserves the 5 stars.

Shiet, son, awsome brushwork I'm envious.

As the pattern gets more intricate and subtle being swept along is no longer enough.

Hey thanks Jelle , yeah VP is great if you're not able to attend life drawing classes, but you already found out by now
For those who never heard of it, check it out for yourself: http://www.virtualpose.net/

Here's a small update, further developed versions of the fairy/witch and the girl in winter coat that I posted earlier + more random character/creature sketches.

Thanks Unbreakable, yeah I often seem to mess up the legs part hehe, will work on it more

I never did a master copy before and I figured it might be a good idea to try it to help me improve my brushwork and lighting so I had a go at copying this famous self-portrait by Rembrandt in which he pictures himself as the apostle St Paul, turned out pretty well me thinks

The study is really beautiful, excellent work. I think that you could just spend A bit longer on it refining the edges and hat etc it would really shine.

    Good stuff keep at it.

Hey thanks a lot you guys, you're all too kind

    Here's another update.
Starting of with some enviro studies with the use of photographs that I took 1 1/2 years back of the beautifull coastline along highway 1 in California.
Next are some concepts and thumbs that I did for some friends that are shooting a short film.
And finally some random character sketches.

When I have enough finished work that is FF worthy

I never really focussed on creature design so I decided to try some.
I kinda scribbled with a black brush untill I saw some shapes forming, which I developed further. The last one is a further developed version of one of the thumbs in my previous post.

wow I'm so totally loving what I'm seeing here.. Great characters

I love the natural feeling in your drawings. all the characters feel convincing, and feel like they could be standing in space. They all have a good sense of weight etc.

I'm afraid I can't think of anything helpful to say.. I'm just liking it

This is wonderful. I really like the expression The pencil strokes are really good and so is the shading.

How did you first start out learning? Was it by anatomy books and reference images? A lot of life drawing?

Where there anything that you did different from the traditional learning?
