Develop my Portfolio
I'm trying to build up my digital portfolio, and since i've been out of school, I miss group crits. Please give me some input on this piece in progress. The details aren't finished including the rough characters in the back, and I am not happy with the composition. It feels framed by the masthead of the ship, but when that was smaller, it was out of perspective. I would love some suggestions.

It does feel like the masthead is framing the picture. I'd suggest making the image go out further to the right and a bit up.
That way there'll be some space overhead to lessen the impact the masthead is having on the image, and painting further to the right will let us also view the sea that the soldier is staring at.

Beutiful rendering, but for a portfolio one thing that art directors will be interested in knowing if you can render a figure head to toe. That includes hands and feet. Right now many parts of the image are obscuring the anatomy of the character - the ship is covering up his legs, and his hands are obscured as well... Thats my 2 cents I guess.
