hey, thanks for stopping by my SB
i especially like your geisha girl on page 6, and your study pages of heads, and character studies are great, they each have such character to them, nice style, youve done a few quick colour studies, but it would be nice to see a longer one ( says me who never does this! i need to start doing this myself)

Great sketchbook... I'm amazed by the efforts you're giving to head and hand anatomy and you can bet it's working! Just a couple of nitpicks: On the shaded figures with exposed skin, I can't help missing some anatomical detail on the stomach area and legs for example, some Bridgeman or Hogarth books or just plain muscle charts might help for that. On the second newest female concept, looks a bit like she's falling backwards - I think to be walking forward, she should have more forward lean.

All in all, wonderful work and progress, your sketching is pure eye candy.

Many thanks for your advice in my sb. I appreciate it. In the last drawings here, the faces are well done but it seems to me that the expressions could have more life. They are neutral, but the postures tell their stories well.

Take a look at my series of in-depth critiques, like this one of Salvador Dali's hidden portrait of Lincoln.

Scott's Sketchbook: Check out my sketchbook. Will swap C&Cs.

Go with the first. Not sure on which to choose though. To me the face seems a bit long and the neither hair seems to go with the face. I dunno, but I'm sure you do. So keep rocking and we'll see what develops yes?

well, some drawings from chows i didn't finish and a couple of sketches

Looking good. I agree also that you should finish and start the ones you mentioned. Good scenes and clothing in there. I think there might be some potential in those. Also, was the CHOW entry the rocker looking guy? You should probably finish that too.. :/ Again, great update and please continue to dump, I love looking and getting inspired by your work.

Rendering form can be likened to drawing contours, in fact they are the same thing. Follow the contour of a person's profile in one unbroken line, you start with the forehead, move down into the nose, over the mouth, each piece of that line is connected to the part before and after it. A vertical line connects to a diagonal, then to a horizontal and so on.
In value it's similar in that each value has to gradually blend into each other value as it turns the form, in this case a mid value may represent a vertical contour, a light value may represent the diagonal, a dark value will represent the horizontal. It's all the same, you're moving over contours just representing it differently.

I'm never coming back here until you start to suck. Lol, no really, the work in here is something else man. The girl that you actually colored looks amazing. I think you should venture into a different color palette though. Lot of half tones and subdued colors in here. Take some risks and have some fun.

Great update and can't wait to see more.

Man there is no such thing as drawing too much women....Draw 'em love 'em... nice sketches btw , I am getting a 50s vibe from these recent sketches .....awesome stuff, I think you can still push with the line flow and rhythm.
    Best.

Ok, I couldn't resist and I came back in here. SHARPEN YOUR PENCIL! A lot of your pencil work is fuzzy from a dull head and it brings the greatness of your sketches down a lot. Also, great work on the punk rocker...totally cool. Great update once again and I might have to send this SB over to Onlio to be featured if I already haven't. Congrats on being awesome.

bhanu: hehe, you are right. still, im quite week in other areas...so i have to draw more subjects. thanks.50's? it could be, im oldfashion i guess. yeah im still working on ryhthm...i will keep that in mind.
    thanks for the comments.

Stark:haha...is not the pencil. is the scanner. it has an unstable behavior latly.
thanks, glad you liked. you are too kind, i still need a lot of work. but thanks for compliment.

sketches, inks and abstractions(non representational if you want):

    Hey Dimagyan,
It's nice to see your recent updates. You show a good amount of knowledge regarding figures and faces with your dynamic and fun style. It's a style I would see on comics and newspapers, especially the last woman you draw. You know how to express the personality of your character in their faces. For now, I can't see anything to critique just a suggestion of doing more paintings. The last ones have a good progress but will be nice to see them finished.

Also, I want to thank you for what I quote above. They are very insightful words and help me open my eyes while I draw. Thanks

a couple of drawings(my scanner is killing my pencils) anyway...

    bhanu:gracias! lo hare

Maestro Andres:thanks a lot! im very glad if i can help. thanks for your kind words, es really greatful know that something that you say or do has some meaning.
my principal interest are comics, so thanks for the compliment.you are right about the paintings, i was all my life more into drawing than painting, just now i start to do some paintings test and working with form.
i will keep this in mind

Like it. The guy's head on the first page of this last update is darkly rendered. Maybe want to try and keep it a bit lighter or get a new scanner Also, stop drawing good looking heads. Damn it, I really can't get mine to be more different from each other no matter how hard I try. The mouths/eyes/noses keep looking the same. Any tips?

    Appreciate the update!

Stark:thanks.hehe no, the darkly rendered head was my fault. form and volume is something i have to practice.
yes, i have to draw more types of heads and faces.
the first thing to come in mind (in order to draw different heads and features) is observe a lot. what you read in many books are rules, general and ideals rules.
ideals canon are good(specialy to learn) but sometimes you have to brake those rules. caricatures are a good example of this (of course is an extreme example)
observe pictures and peoples faces. keep in mind the proportions of the head, but don't get to attach to them...anyway i have to work a lot on variation, so don't believe too much on what i wrote.

    thanks for stop by!

the sketch of the gangster and his moll...is not finish. i don't know if i will finish this, my original idea was to de some ink...anyway:

Ah, you strike again! Good looking gangster. I think you should finish this one. It has a lot of potential as a pin-up just for the nostalgic and noir-ness of it all. I agree with what you said friend. Getting out of my habits and preconceived notions of what is there is a toughy and I'm reminded of it all the time. Thanks for sharing some insider information with me. Again, great update and i hope you finish this. If you are interested in finishing this and in ink, take a look at squidmonk3j's SB. He is by far (in my humble opinion) one of the best "inkers" CA has around. And the guy is really helpful (he taught me everything I know..or have yet to grasp correctly.)

    Cheers and take care. Adios
