Impossible Awesome m@,

Impossible Awesome m@,
I love your style.
I miss you![]()
I was wondering why you toned down your use of different brushes. Was it to time consuming or did you just develop other methods for achieving the look you were after?
Did you study art or self taught?
Where did you start professionally, how hard was it for you to start finding enough work to keep you busy and what kind of art were you first paid to do?
Ive tried to read most of your thread so i dont think i have repeated any of the same questions but if i have im sorry
Hive_minD : thanks a lot! Im really glad if I can produce that kind of effect. Yeah I should do a vid of a long painting but I need a bigger HDD
rayk : thanks!
RyanDeMita : thanks! yep, its important to keep things simple and not focus too much on details in the first place. I work freealnce atm, for different video game companies. I should start to work in the US in a few months tho, if I get my visa.
Inkin : thanks! strange that they dont work, hope it works now.
hurricane : hey, thanks for stopping by !
MindFlaw : it depends really. Usually in my personnal speed paint they grow within the process, as it makes it so much faster. But for my work stuff, I usually know what Im going for.
Bard : thanks!
MattGamer : thanks a lot! Japan is great. I went there for a short gig, working on a cool project for sega.
Darktwin : thanks!
BOOM! : thank you
MichaelMotion : thank you.
dchan : thanks a lot!
kischi : thanks
Chuck,mate : thanks man!
inouye : thank you.
Hickorydoc : haha sorry, Japan is keeping me way too busy with work and bars
I toned down my brush use because I feel more comfortable and prefer the style that comes out from more subtle brush use. I used to make a lot of crazy brush work before because I was experimenting with the system. Now that I feel like I understand it, I just use/make some specific brushes when I know I need them for a particular use.
Im self taught if that means anything. I didnt go to any art school.
I started professionaly in a 3d company in Paris (on arch viz, music videos, commercials). At that time ( in 2003) I didnt really think I could make a living from just drawing/painting ( I never really tried digital painting) . With time I got bored with 3d and discovered the works of people like craig mullins, sparth, vyle, etc , and understood that you could do in 30 minutes what took a day or more to do in 3d , so I started experimenting with photoshop at home, and started posting speed paintings on forums.
Forums like conceptart.org, sijun and cafesale gave me a big big boost and so after a little time I started to think about working exclusively in 2d. So I quit my 3d job in 2006 and quickly found a job as a concept artist at Darkworks in Paris, where I met people who made me meet other people in the concept art field, people that eventually became great friends of mine and introduced me to clients, so I started working as a freelancer too. Finally I quit Darkworks this february to work as a full freelance for game companies and a few book covers, and here I am. I should stop freelancing soon tho, as I got an offer from a company Ive always dreamt to work in, and if I get my visa I should move to the US in a few months.

That last one is abnormally... sexy... compared to your usual work! Sexy as in feminine, not sexy as in your usual awesomeness.![]()

"I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain."

The last two pictures are awesome, Mathias. I dig how your style is changing lately. It's good to see you put the textures away a little bit. A cleaner style makes your sense of colors and lighting pop out.
Keep it up.

Really inspirational to come in here and look at the fantastic work you do. And I really enjoyed watching your video demos, gives a lot of insight on your process and what I could do to improve on a lot of things.
