    Connection problems?

    Hi,

Sometimes I cannot open this thread, or can't until after several tries:

    http://www.conceptart.org/forums/sho...91#post1169091

Others seem to be experiencing the same problem. Any help appreciated, thanks!

If/when you get another problem connecting, please try to go anywhere else on CA - try the main page and the forums. Make sure that you reload/refresh these pages if they load, so that they're not loaded from your cache. If everything is as it "should" be, you won't be able to access those pages either. The problem would then be that the server has too much stuff to do and you'll just have to be patient (and/or pay for a new server ).

i've done that repeatedly, and the thread listing pages load fine, but the threads are very, very spotty. yesterday almost no glitches, today almost nothing but.

Has anyone had this problem (that it asks you to download the thread page) in another browser than Firefox?

i have the same problem...firefox is really not digging ca at the moment. ie works fine, and opening threads in ie tab also works fine.

    Pontemonti:

in IE6, this is the kind of url that more often than not times out with a "cannot find server or DNS error" message page:

    http://conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?t=86786

the value for t= changes, of course. it happens just as frequently when there is a "lastpost" spec included in the URL (as in "go to last post in thread").

so far today i'd say only 10% of my attempts to open any thread have been successful. i can open any other page on CA (including my 3.0 page), but a lot of the forum threads are being really ornery.

I'm having this problem too. To view most threads I first have to log out. It's really annoying since when I want to post something in that thread I'll have to log in again to post, and then I'll have to log out again to load a new thread.
I wanted to edit the last post in my sketchbook, but my sketchbook page won't load unless I'm logged out. But when I'm logged out there's no "edit" button
    weird situation

Oddly enough, when this happens to me all I need to do is take out the www - maybe I'm oldschool but I still put that in. (talking about non-loading pages)

I have been getting this every time I try to open a thread with a lot of images (so it kind of limits browsing on any thread here). It just loads a blank page.

I really hate to complain, but...

I haven't been able to access anything but three threads for the last hour. I'm constantly getting "ďlost network connectionĒ (NSURLErrorDomain:-1005)" messages, which indicates a timeout problem with the server. There's not a huge list of viewers right now, so it can't be that. This has been reported before, and I'm curious if anyone has looked into it...

It has nothing...repeat...NOTHING...to do with the browser being used. This is a constant problem, and I'm worried about it because I'm trying to set up an ongoing long-term "teaching" challenge and if this keeps happening, it's going to blow me out of the water...

Usually, when I have a connection problem, I edit the URL to exclude the "http://www." portion.

    e.g.

    Becomes...

    "conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?t=86915"

Usually, for some inexplicable reason, that works.

However, there have been times where it hasn't worked. This is when I get the "lost network connection" problem you're talking about Ilaekae. This usually seems to fix itself after about an hour.

I'm using Firefox, if that matters at all.

in case it can be correlated with any particular situation or event with the CA server, today's been another like i last reported, less than 50% accessibility on many threads, though all pages listing threads have been fine. some threads i could not open after more than a half-dozen attempts (with a few minutes between each try), including my sketchbook thread.

    maybe better tommorow.

I'm getting the exact same problem too, only a select few threads actually open for me, some I need to wait for more than 60 seconds, and some never open. Oi.

Yup, same here. It's not so bad now (~11PM PST), but earlier this afternoon it was just killer. Couldn't access any threads for the life of me.

It seems to be at its worst in the afternoons. High traffic volume, I'm sure. :/

i use only IE and it's just as bad a prob -- it isn't browser-specific, nor does it seem to be tied to any specific peak traffic periods. i've had probs from in the early a.m. all the way to pumpkin hour on every day of the week. sometimes it last only an hour or two, sometimes the whole day. it's only anecdotal, but it seems the sketchbook threads are particularly susceptible.

I use IE and I'm experienceing the same problem, just like Masque. :/ It seems to be happening randomly. Today I had less trouble accessing threads than usual, but I still couldn't open several sketchbooks even after multiple attempts.

I usually only have problems when there are over 1000 people visiting...

totally weird anyway, but definitely needs to be fixed

things have been especially chancy the last two days, many threads not connecting for half-dozen or more attempts, even at times the visitation levels seem lower than usual. one thing i've observed that may be completely irrelevant or, on the other hand, useful -- after finally getting into one of the "difficult" threads, and going to submit a reply, the submission processing will often appear to time out and a "server not found" or "DNS error" message will come up (IE). but the post will have been logged, it can be seen in the thread listings. whether or not this end of things should be influenced by heavy traffic, i don't know, just figured i'd report it.

I think an admin needs to put CA in read only mode for a minute, and go into the Vbulletin Control Panel (should always back up your database of course) but tell VB to do a database repair. I've had this happen on my forum sometimes. I'm not going to say for sure it's the cause, but it sounds like the database is having a hard time reaching certain tables/indexes. Hence, the WSOD: (White Screen of Death).

Go into control panel, Import and Maintenience / Repair/ Optimize Tables.

You might want to do an update on counters afterwards.

i've been experiencing the same thing. i really wish we'd get some feedback from the higherups. i can't even get into my sketchbook to update it right now, and i could barely open this post.
