    Craigbruyn's speedpaint and sketch thread

    Hi all,

Have been learning some spreedpainting and sketch, and have previously had this thread over in crits so that i could get some feedback and suggestions. The images were starting to bank up tho so i've moved it to here.
Would still love any crits and comments tho, as this will be a continual learning process for me.

Good concepts here, seems your characters are in the same standing positions, I suggest some guick figure studies, maybe to get your mind some fresh poses. I know, I have the same problem, but mine is worse, at least your art has some depth, that distracts awy from it. Ill keep checking back to this thread to see how your doin. Your doing good, keep drawing and postin.

    My Sketchbook- C&C very welcome

    Thanx Envisor,
That's some great advice. I think what you're recommending would also solve my problems with some of my pictures lookin too static as well.
quick figures studies are on the cards for me today!
    thx

Thats some cool artwork you have there! I like solder guy with the gun I think it shows a lot of drama. I think a good book to read for figure drawing is "Figure Drawing for all it's Worth" by Andrew Loomis. I really like what you are doing! Keep up the good work man, looking forward to seeing more

Youre sketches are excellent. Your shading skills when in grayscale and black&white are good, but like all of us, the step into colour is still uncertain. I think you should try use less white in your colour pieces, and try to make the image warmer by adding yellows and reds into the shadow. The key is in experimentation.

    All the best!

Amer-nazri - spot on with your comments. colour rendering is not something i've done a lot of until recently. still in the early learning stages. You're right obout the use of white too. I really have to stop using it - it doesn't look realistic but i just can't help myself

Here's my latest (with whites kept out of it). Done for one of the DSG topics here at conceptart.org

love your baseline of work, very good, one thing, your muscles drawings are always off. like it were ok to draw them like that. I would like to see some reference drawing of body builders, see how u cope with abit of thorough muscle detail.

    Good work, keep it up.

    Thanks Dreamworker!

This latest piece i tried to work looser and quicker.
I think it suceeds in being a lot less static than some of my previous work.

Your last picture is moving on nicely, but I think, that the right hand of the red knight holds the sword in a weird way... or maybe the sword should be pointed up a little bit more?
