I'm lovin' these latest updates, Mr. Grumble! Your last color piece shows quite a bit of improvement. The harder edges and greater contrast really helps clarify things.
I think you should draw both Evil Lord Sock Monkey and a Ferocious Jibblymarm, just as long as you make the Jibblymarm a creature. You have lots of awesome characters in this sketchbook, but not very many creatures.

heya folks! just a quickie before i pass out...caught the flu or something nasty the last few days.
    teeny update as usual
mabye i shouldnt stay up until 4 when im sick eh?
well, anyhoo i started up on a moby dick cover today. went through alot of ideas, but eventually settled on something quite cliche. but it'll be fun!!
    1. sketch on masonite 22x33
    2. initial color lay in...for the backdrop at least(actually, after i blocked out all the clouds and waves form frustration. but i think this suits it..more dramatic...:cough lazy!
    3. just goin allaprima for the faces and bodies. finish that tomorrow probably and then let it dry for touch ups before class.

i find something quite sexy about the stark complexions of old masterworks (not in mine, but peeps like van dyke, rembrandt, dou..etc!) trying to get that feel, but a little modernized? i dunno but i think its naptime.
i'll respond in a bit guys!
and oh...evil lord sock monkey i see!!!
    :{
oh, and again, sorry for the horrid digi pictures..new camera soon
    NYQUIL TIME!!! hooray

hey Timmy, the MD cover looks cool! I'm curious why you changed the idea. How did the crit go I guess? Nice start on the painting! i like the white clouds on the right. beautifully rendered! im full of jealousy and envy!!! there must be a bug going around at the moment because I have toncillitus. frickken sucks! I've been out of commison for the whole week. I hope to be back soon. oh and the RB sessions start next week!!! I'm suped!!!

edit: did you shellac that? i think i can see it in some parts. i noticed that you are doing this alla prima for real so i wanted to tell you of my past blunders doing this technique. remember to where your values are going (do an underpainting or a small value or color study). if you dont have a clear idea of what you want...your painting will show it. in other words they dont "magically" come together. too bad huh? nice start!

bad digital camera! bad! no soup for you

    oooHhohO! replies galore!!
adraude - hey thanks mate! wish photobucket didnt nix half of my piccies
though! im in the works of transferring them over... glad you liked!

stormcrow - weve gone over this before. I am the one thats jealous of you!! too kind

voodoochile - trust me, i psyched myself out of the alla prima man i forgot im still not half as technically able as i wanted to be. everything is going to be black in the picture now im gonna keep at the oils though, even if it means sacrificing what couldve been a good piece. thank lordie for digital wait, my digi skills blow as well!!! nooo! oh....and RB sessions? if you're still feeling sick i GUESS i can take your spot. but only if you ask

danny - haha! always a pleasure mate. you truly have a way with that like noone else!!

meatsworthy - many thanks comrade sometimes something actually goes my way...although ironic that its when something malfuctions

blue severin - thats what im hoping to get with this mate!!! ah....gonna be a learning experience though!

dako - hah! thanks mate, too kind of you in fact, heres another smiley

bojee - thanks buddy, feeling a bit better today, but not quite 50% yet btw, you got me obsessed with flechin!! the man is a genius! as are you

feddie - hooray! good to hear from you mate. i dunno if you want a tutorial thou, im still trying thing out for the first time as usual oh, and i tell my prof he sucks every day (OMG i think i just felt my soul die!!! i take it back! praise xenu )

this is the only decent pic i could possibly get of the moby dick piece so far. one thing ive learned so far is that i really need to have a plan when i go into a painting, like knowing exactly how clothing will be and etc..eep! but theres still about four days to finish this puppy. base colors are pretty much down. didnt really touch that bottom right dood though, he needs to change...and soon!
and also started up another study for my anatomy class. he wanted a drawing of the shoulder girdle. so im doing a painting because i feel that, well, my painting skills just arent there. im actually quite scared when i start putting the piants down. lordie i need some desperate confidence courses soon. or mabye a girlfriend. i dunno but anyways the first coat kinda done for tonight. didnt get to the hands, but tomorrow im gonna lay down some law on em! and then put another coat over everything else. but aobut that confidence thing. poo. theres a great new chow, but im already scared by all the entries to even pick up a pencil and sketch
    cheerio mates!
horrible digi pics! be warned!!! but it means well

    timmy :{

    EDIT!!!!

and a half an hour later, rather than get some wholesome rest i decided to use up the rest of my paint. being all artsy like that
and so that place in the middle: nutcrack or buttsack? deep thoughts indeed

El mustachio. Speaking your artform language, these are dialectal phlegms with a capricious twist in flesh, whim, and colonized humor. Uncle Scrooge would beam at the man we've become to recognize as the cookie crumb consumer. Italian restauraunt pioneer, park bench mutant, bacon monstrosity, governor dragonfly with a discontent mumble to match.

    well hello hello!
call0ps! thanks mate! now i cant blame the camera though for all my crappy paintings haha now i gotta step it up and do quality work!
ikuru! ...oh.. the gods piece ive changed it a bit. but i think it should still go down well! ive got that week before its due off for vacation so i can devote some TLC towards it. thanks for checkin in mate always appreciate it!!
dan the man! well, heres another for ya mate!!

the somewhat finish of the Moby Dick cover....changed alot and simplified. i dont wanna overwork it, but mabye it still needs some levels and such? i dunno! if mayhaps anyone has pointers let em rip! im still not happy with digital, i guess you could describe all my brushstrokes as.....milky? jpeg looks a wee different to oh hell!
and a random sketch, gotta get going on that evil sock monkey eh!! this is what i did after Vulgar steered me into the CHOW, but i didnt even finish the pencils in time didnt know what to do to resolve it, so a little Mucha influence. I think i wanna go and actually tone and finish the sketch thou, could be good? mabye...

    cheers and tom cruise
    timmy

EDIT! oh, and why not...here are the freaky faces in working file size
you see how it all falls apart as you move in?

Timmy!!!!! I missed so much here!!!!
This one is oh so amazing!!! http://img129.imageshack.us/img129/1032/girdlekk9.jpg

So you're finishing the Moby Dick piccie digitally? That's too bad, the oils had some awesome textures and variations that are lost in the digi. You have a tendency to make the lights too light and the darks too dark when working digitally. And to use grayish colors. I like the oils a lot more.

    newdies

hurri glad you like the paints mate! and so you know, i wasnt kidding about that apprentice thingie i mentioned elsewhere
and entie! glad to hear from you yeah i agree with the black/highlight thing, but i psyched myself out of actually being able to do the painting traditionally
    but next week....the Hobbit!

anyhoo here are some drawings from class today, trying to focus on the shoulder girdle a little...would've been easy except one of the models wouldnt #%$$#$! stop moving!!!! so all i eeked out that was relatively okay is below!

Five minute poses.......the shaded charcoal ones are ten, although i dont think i used the time to its full extent got me a little sleepy eyed!!
    can you say....camera flash?!

and this was one of them 'swaying' poses....all i could get before she started teetering over!!

    and a dood
