Awesome new work, love the guy with the hat. For this last piece did you crop it for the forum or is that how you want it to be? Because composition wise it seems a bit awkward. The guy is standing right on the edge of the page, he also almost reaches to the top leaving little room for breathing space and because of that it gives a "tight" feeling. Maybe the client wanted in such a way but I think it could benefit from cropping it wider and giving the whole piece a bit more space.

Thanks Dennis, I see what you mean. It is going to be used as a forum signature. I'm waiting for the clients feedback and then we'll decide where to take the piece from there.

These are some sketches I did to practice animation styling. I'm starting to get the hang of working with simple shapes.

I find it incredible how did you so many variations of that old lady character, I wouldnt even be able to come up with so many variations in just the basic triangle/box shapes Awesome work.

Thanks Dennis . The answer to your question is: understanding how to design. Being able to draw well is just one aspect of what we do, being able to design is the other one. And that's what I'm focusing on learning in this season of my artistic journey.

Some more character design practice from these past weeks, focusing on shape and proportions.

really nice! do you start with a general expressive abstract shape for each character and base everything else on that, or do you feel your way from point to point? do u think starting with bold graphic shapes is helpful?

Thanks Sparekiss! What I really start with is deciding what I want to communicate with the character. Is it supposed to look tough? Dangerous? Insecure? Then I design shapes that evoke those feelings. Without a clear goal it is quite hard to design and it will most likely end up being an exercise in doodling. It doesn't have to be detailed, just one word will give you something to work towards.

As for the drawing part itself, sometimes I start with one big general shape and other times I feel my way from shape to shape.

Starting with bold graphic shapes can definitely be helpful. The more you understand design the easier it is to get good results.

Some more work on my character design. I noticed that his left arm needs to be shorter.

Awesome, now that I'm doing so many characters myself I'm even more impressed at how good these guys are. Especially how you've given them all personalities and narrative within the designs. Great work.

Thank you Dennis , you're doing a great job!

I did another motion study in the past two days. It seems to be challenging to keep the proportions consistent while drawing the frames of action.
