    Teen Challenge #23: Book Scene

First off, congrats to Narmo for winning challenge #21, and giving us a cool mascot. I'll find a way to make it more official soon.

    The Rules:
Anyone ages 13-19 may submit an entry at any time before the deadline. Please host your image on a remote image-hosting site instead of uploading it to the CA server. This makes it much easier to transfer it to the poll thread.

SPECIAL RULE - At the request of several people, this challenge will not be open to any medium. Rather, all entries must be drawn by hand in pencil or ink. The image must be drawn on paper of some kind, no digital drawings. You may digitally edit scans but only to adjust levels, don't digitally draw over them. No color either, use only regular black media so the focus remains on draftmanship.

    The Topic:
Scene: Illustrate a scene from a novel or story
Rather self explanatory, just choose a scene or event from a book (preferably something most people will recognize) and draw it in the way you interpret it. For the description, include the title of the book you chose, and if you can, a brief excerpt of text from that book describing the scene you chose. Considering that this challenge is pencil/ink only, think of your drawing as if it could be an illustration for a new edition of the book you chose.

Special thanks to Keng for the topic suggestion!

    The Deadline:
Thursday, January 18th at midnight PST
    Two weeks.

I think I'm going to enter this one, I'm 18 almost 19, that's still "teen" enough right?

edit: I might not have an entry, I think I might be doing the God TD, but I don't know. I'm bad about these, sorry.

    I'm in yayayay!
I do think that the topic is véry open. A sugestion is to maybe change the whole "any story/ novel" to "any fairytale" ?
Ah well it might be too late for that now, but who cares.
I'm totally up for the pencil/ ink stuff. Wanted to do more ink stuff anyway.
@Blue Mech; yup, that's teen enough

    Love

how about, you can still draw in digital b/w. a lot of my digital sketches look like something scanned in....personally i'd probably draw this traditionally but some ppl just experiment better in ps or painter.

How am I ever going to think of a subject, I've only read a coulple thousand books. [sigh]

Does digital inking count? The type that looks just like normal ink?

I edited the rules to clarify some things. Sorry to those of you who really prefer digital, but to make this challenge different as requested, I've gotta set some limits.

Correct, you won't be penalized in any way for choosing to illustrate something obscure, I just think the entries would be more interesting if they were mostly new interpretations of scenes we're familiar with.

This sounds like fun, and I really like the pencil medium so I'll definitely have a crack at this. Then we'll get to see what's what when everyone doesn't have the crutch of photoshop

    fuckin' a.
I think there should be more traditional art contests well-roundedness ftw!

As the pattern gets more intricate and subtle being swept along is no longer enough.

I'd assume so, just drawing a character from the story wouldnt really be enough to put in as an illustration in the book/story as was suggested.

Cant wait to get started. Im looking at working with a classical Greco-Roman story/myth.
