I have been doing a lot of studies for the past few months and would love to hear your thoughts. I generally give myself 1-6 hours...6 being the max. A lot of these studies were done in painter to familiarize myself with the program.
Here are some for review.
Look forward to your thoughts, comments, crits.

this looks great, cool concepts. I don't know how sure I am about the textures though.
post some more!
oh btw, welcome!
i have posted some stuff that i did about a year ago. and thanks for the welcome
Great paintings. Very creative concepts. Keep posting.
as an FYI: the studies/exercises (aside from the last 3 which are my original ideas) were taken from underworld and gladiator and in no way are my arrangements, lighting etc.... these are just visual exercises for me. i just wanted ppl to know so they know the source of the exercises. thanks guys!
1 weird piece that i did and 1 study taken from "the good thief"
some rough sketches, some tighter sketches, some loose paintings...just more stuff.
Lovely pencils. Using movie frames is a great exercise. I must try it.
cool sketchbook so far, I like the first concept on post 3.
using movie frames sounds like a good idea, so long as the quality
of the frame is high.
i was supposed to post some thumbnail char. concept/poses to my SB to get your impressions/feedback(and i wanted to post some pencil studies too), but my scanner got broke when i moved. damn, have to buy a new scanner...crap.
just more studies from underworld and requiem for a dream(painter) and an old man i painted up a while back.
Your work is all great to view, everypiece offers something completely different to the last. Great stuff
thanks guys for all your comments. more stuff:
- a handful of thumbnail char. sketches of a female warrior that i have been tinkering with...range from 1.5-4" in height.
- some sketches that i did this week whenever i had time
- a quick boat study from the movie Elizabeth
Hey there - I love the sketch from "Elizabeth". Great job implying dark/reflective water with just a few strokes. You've been busy, and the stuff looks great!
the first 2 are taken from gladiator, the third is from underworld and the fourth is from elizabeth.
1. taken from house of flying daggers..studying dynamic cloth
2. requiem for a dream...figure study
3. i have no idea...i just went along for the ride to see what would come out.
from no movies. starting with landscapes and environment studies(because i suck at them) along with anatomy and my own work and so on and so forth etc......
Liking your style, I`d love to see more Underworld/Gladiator work
And requiem is the most epic song ever
Apart from the nice movie capture studies, you have some great character designs as well. Confident and solid form. I really like the mech designs and the tree house pencils in post #7. NICE stuff.
thanks AztcFireFlower. your work kicks ass, so i am really flattered that you like my char. work. re: the mech stuff, esp. the finished vehicle, it takes me some time to do it, so appreciate you liking it!
Smokey186, thanks again! i look forward to your next posting when you get your tablet.
yeah, that sums it up
works in progress...actually needs a lot of work.
a lot of things need to be reworked....the first sketch and painting is crap. i hate doing crap work...ugh....gotta...get...good.
lotsa good stuff in here. Heh, I particularily like the frog piece. Also, the house of flying daggers one is awsome too (and so was that movie).
keep up the good work
i really enjoy a lot of the sketches and studies you have. although, one thing that i think you can work on more is the range of value in your paintings. personally, i think they need to be a bit darker. maybe just more contrast would help to really pop the figures. try to be aware of the aerial perspective and see if you can do a couple studies incorporating some soft edged figures and hard edged figures to explore how can manipulate the focal point.
good stuff though.
thanks wake. good luck on applying to school. i hope that you get in.
thanks some12kill. i agree, and i will work on that.
some more brain fart sketch dumps:
Have to say the coloring and modeling on this is gorgeous.
What a cool way to practice your digipaints.
As I mentioned B4, your character designs are so good. A lot of great design details. This last set is no exception. Great imagination and excellent figure study.
Interesting and wise advice from some12kill. something I must keep in mind, myself.
Keep on creating!
hey its mike from warhammer, nice shit!!!
Wow those movie paintings are really nice, great way to study! Must try it once I get my grip on anatomy and such.
Lovely pencils too! This one is one hell of a study
Thx for replying in my SB

Keep it up.
