So, I take the opportunity of a tiny holiday break, a handful of days no more, to unload the stuff I've done during the last months.

_ These are chara designs done for Ubisoft's M&M Dark Messiah. They don't appear in the game finally. I had to draw several concepts and push them as far as possible within 5 days and here are the finals:

_ Recently I got hired to draw the covers of Dan Simmons's Hyperion for the french market. I was a bit scared yet very excited since I'm not used to paint sci-fi themes, but in the end it is obvioux that Hyperion is much more than just sci-fi so why not me heh ?! There are eight volumes so more will come very soon.

    Hyggdrasil:

my own take on the Shrike:

    a crop of his face:

    a bishop of the Pax:

    some warmups:

    _ Now some random covers:

I think many of you have already seen this one since it was the cover of InQuest Gamer magazine and it's on the back cover of Exotique 2.

    some more...
Tyrants & Kings II (John Marco)

Tyrants & Kings III (John Marco)

A Feast for Crows (Georges RR Martin)

the Years of Rice and Salt (Kim Stanley Robinson)

and here's the new pin-up I did for the most Rock&Sexy bar in Paris named "Les Furieux":

Actually I've done a lot more stuff for WotC and Wizkids and White Wolf for example but the art is still under NDA even though it was done 6 or 7 months ago... frustrating as always...

Fantastic. I especially like the one with the knight riding towards the castle.

yay, i love this work so very much, but this one in particular strikes me: the throne piece. the only thing that bothers me is the straightness and awkwardness of the robed figures' fingers. if they werent' so tubelike they would be more like fingers.. awesome work here mate! congrats on the back cover!

o__0!!! I likey mucho! heheh. But really, the king who is about to be killed and the chick with the gun = my faves in this dump, with a couple of the scenaries. Any more laying around? Simple Sketches perhaps? Hmmm?

    KUDOS!!!

Whee, Dan Simmons art Cool, I'm digging the bishop especially, the costume design is lovely done. The Shrike of course is rather freely adapted, as is the Yggdrasil.

The stabbed king is another great piece, as is the rider in front of the big castle. Show us more!

    Great stuff!! *inspiration folder*
thanks for sharing, I love the lighting and texturing on the king piece...

Question: I've been trying to find out how you guys make those cool looking multiple-line strokes(first pic)...now yours have a twist, they are multi-colored within the stroke, How in the heck did you do that???

The knight riding towards the castle is one of my favourites of 2006.

The Hyperion stuff reminds of Martiniere's work. I like what you're doing with these. It must be very challenging to do covers. I can imagine how difficult it is to please the fans of such epics!

EDIT: the New Year's pic is great too! I like the experimentation in the technique.

    Keep up the good work.

    Cheers!

I love everything especially the first two ones from the top. I just love all of the details you put into each piece. Very inspirational.

Brilliant use of photographic and painted textures. I love your work. I dig the cover of the "king" and all the assasins with blades surrounding him. Also really like the knight riding toward the castle.

    awesome stuff, great painting/colour techniques.
either this character is too big, or the horse is too small:

Either way, buddy's a bit too big to be riding that horse lol.

    Hi Living Rope,

I like the way your new illustrations are going - you seem to develop a more painterly and a little rougher style in your drawings. Very fine stuff and just praise from my site.

Now stop posting stuff here and take your ass over to Aleksi to finish the Merlin book - there are people out there waiting for it

Thanks a lot for your support friends

I've updated some titles I forgot to add to the last book covers.

Jester: lol ! thanks dude ! you're not the first one to tell me about this horse. I did hesitate a lot about his scale, knowing that I'm not a specialist of horses. Let's say it's a poney or some mongolian stepper horse HAHA !

Octavian, Pogonip, Voodoochile, getata, Juliana, Atlantis, trevor, Scorned: mucho mucho thanks ! I take a lot of comfort in your support.

Nikki Nic: Danke sehr meine liebe Aleksi and I are trying to finish Merlin asap but it is much more ambitious than we first thought. The new release date is May. be sure that we'll comment it largely on these forums when it's done.

Mikko: I'm a huge fan of your art man. Talking about Hyperion, the only thing you can do when you come to illustrate such a monster is trying to stay confident in your skills and in the fact that the AD chose you and no one else for a good reason.

JLAlfaro: the multiple-line strokes you're talking about are made with a PS brush I stole from my good friend and awesome brush techie M@, or maybe it's a Barontieri one, not really sure now... and it's mixed with a randomly texturized layer.

    Jabo, Saikin, Blog, Kian, Elwell: (k) (k) (k) (k)

Blonde: Dude, I got soOo inspired by your last enviro ! Did you post it here ?
