Victor B: thanks!! me too! ;] you're my faithful thank'er.
i see you thanking as much as me! hahaha
    Dished: yes i will
Lou Holsten: thanks! moar moar moar!

nonie i you!!!!! i sent her my first color study and
she pointed out some key tips i will forever remember
    and cherish!

    *Nonie says:
-you messed up on the hair though - don't take a dark color and go over lights with it, it looks muddu. pick the color you want
-mr james kei told me that and then he made me use hard round
    Matt says:
-dark color over light = no no
-light color over dark = win
    -??
    *Nonie says:
-well that goes for light over dark too - the point it, if you need a midtone, make a midtone color
-you get mud when you don't make your own midtones because there's no even gradient like that in real life, the temperature changes as the value does
-hence hot reds and oranges at the line where light and shadow meet on skin and things like that
    Matt says:
    ?ohh
    ?hard round brush :]
?ok i see. no half ass stuff
    *Nonie says:
-if you don't have those mid colors (they're usually pretty saturated) it looks like mud because you didn't make a decision, you just got lazy
    Matt says:
    -so new color for everything
    -no blending with opacity
    *Nonie says:
-you can do a little - just use 3 or 4 colors instead of two
-go as long as you can with the hard round, no opacity - this strengthens your ability to translate a color you see
-when you're doing a finished painting you can use any technique you like, but color studies should be about learning to use the right colors
-also - using a hard round to block in the base colors for a painting makes everything soooo fast if you have to do something stylized
-yeah, big huge brushes, stay zoomed out as long as you can
-figure out the biggest brush you can get what you want with and then pick one size bigger, hehe
    Matt says:
-i'm trying so hard not to overlay the image
    -and get the proportions right
    -i can't measure worth crap
    *Nonie says:
    -that just comes with practice
-one step away from overlaying the image that won't feel like cheating - make them the same size next to each other in pshop, and then flick your eyes back and forth quickly between them, not really trying to focus on anything. The differences will leap out at you if you do this a few times.
-that works when doing cast drawing and life drawing too
-and to test if my form is looking 3d i kind of rock side to side in my chair so that the image isn't just still in front of me - if i start getting this feeling like my brain wants it to turn in space and it's surprised that it isn't, i know it's close and it's easy to see what need to be pushed or pulled
-somehow making the image move so you can't settle on it really helps a lot
    thanks nonie!!

Great color study! And I really like the pen sketches, awesome stuff man

I especially like the little conversation between you and nonie, it addresses alot of what I struggle with as well. So it was nice to read that.

Anyway really nice stuff in here, looking forward to seeing more!

    Hi Matt!

It was great meeting you at Reverie, and I'm enjoying the pics you took at the event.

The last color piece (speedpaint?) is looking good. I also like the blue pen studies. Reminds me that I need to get cracking.

PS: I'm the purple haired gal in the pics you snapped at the hotel bar meetup on Friday.

That no opacity thing sounds like a good idea, think i'll try that.

Your studies are coming along great but keep in mind that drawing stuff from head (like the one above which looks really cool btw) is just as important. Keep it up dude!
