your anatomy studys are impressive!
I kind of begin to realice what I lack in -.-"
took me long enough cause up to now all my anatomy studys were observed from living (not cut open) persons

Hi again Naomi. Yes, I think it would be a good idea for you to try with oil color, theyīre great when you get used to them and I personally love to paint with that technic. Actually, the use of color is quite simmilar to the PS procedure somehow, if you think about hue, saturation, and brightness.

About anatomy, Iīve seen the studies you have posted here and some of them are good, but theyīre far from being as good as all the other stuff you have, it seems you donīt feel really free drawing them, right? One danger about being too worry about anatomy is that your drawings end up being too "correct" in that sense, many artists fall in that mistake for a while until they realize that thatīs not the point in an image.

Ah, and about using pen/pencil, I donīt think itīs gonna be really different. Pen is more direct and helps you getting deeper blacks, pencil usually only allows you to work with a limited greyscale. If what you want is to go forward into the tonal study, you may use both, pen is perfectly able to create subtile grey changes.

Lately I haven't been able to go to many places and sketch these people out. So here are 2.. class and the library coffee shop, then a doodle in the back of my sb, and then a photoshop sketch of a character.

Enjoy~!

mull77> Thanks for visiting again~! :]
dakoscwash> Hey thanks.. and yeah I was there! I won't be going to today's meeting 'cause I'm going to vabeach to watch 300 with some friends. ; ; Go see it and I'll see you .. um I guess 2 weeks from now haha
Rossouw> Wow I'm flattered .. but why don't you just airbrush your own images? It'd be more special I'm sure. :p
Tigermilk> Eep, thank you !
destinyapocalypse> thanks
stalsby> I'm glad!
paperX> haha my handwriting? Well, thank you !
Infinit> Thanks !
Badaboom> Hey thanks. They are probably not as free because I was copying them from a book - in order to be free and make images that reflect anatomy well from the imagination, you must first understand it at somewhat of an academical fashion.. you know, knowing what IS there! THen afterwards you may not think of those things so much - your pen(cil) will flow along with the knowledge~ as for pen/pencil, I've definitely seen some awesome pen rendered images, but I guess I'm just seeing how the pencil will serve me with my style of sketching random people. ^_^

Let me guess...Is the book the Jeno Barcsay Anatomy for Artists? I bet that´s the one (really cool book, btw). Very good updates, I really like most of your stuff, and yes, keep pushing forward with pencil, there are many different kinds and the results can be really beautyful. Oh, perhaps you may like to try with silver pen (dunno the English translation, Spanish name is "punta de plata"), the tool commonly used by Leonardo, Michaelangelo and many others til the invention of pencil in the XIX century. You know, just to explore new tools...

I cant get over your line quality and feel of your characters. Very beautiful pieces. The only thing that can see in your pieces is that dont put as much effort into drawing the hair than you do drawing the facial features and human figures.

Call0ps> thanks, I will!
Badaboom> no, not the same book, I used Joseph Sheppard's complete anatomy guide or however it goes. And silver pen? o_o; I'll google it.. but hey! Got some oils for you ~
bhanu> thanks! I wanted her to be not so pretty and kinda' ugly with the shape of her face. The tones are really weird saturated ones just mixed together to get the tone. Like pure cyan red purple golden yellowishy color - haha

Envisor> Yeah I noticed that too.. thanks I'll do a hair piece sometime.
nethus> Thanks!
RedGallo> thanks a lot ~

aph> thaaaanks :]
shidoken> thanks very much, yes.. my colors need some hardcore working on - i'll keep working on that!

Mm, landscape from ref is gorgeous; such a great palette and value pattern.
Floating girl is really well rendered too, very cool - I need to pick up a pencil again soon...

Keep at the oil studies, that's really going to pay off!

I agree with Tensai.

This last post didn't seem like your heart was in it as much, but that pencil sketch of the floating girl is smokin! I love your sketches in general, do they really stress cross-hatching at VCU? The digi on the post before this last one is really well rendered, the only thing that kinda bugs me is the ear looks like it's from a profile head, and I think it needs to recede back some.

I go to MICA in Baltimore by the way, Tensai/Lok thinks all us Americans going to school look alike. Have you taken classes with Pratt yet?? I'm jealous.

Bojee> Oh my heart was in the oil painting - at first, lol.. I've never done an oil portrait or anything even remotely refined of any sort. So Sargent held my hand a little and let go when he was bored I think~! No, VCU doesn't push crosshatching, I just messed with it my freshman year in foundations and fell in love ever since. And Pratt? Erm, I was never able to get into his classes, signed up for 2 this year and he moves off to Florida. Just my luck right? He's awesome - hey I think a study of one of his paintings would be neat! hehe

Nice update. The brush strokes on the painting are very nice...the eyes and mouth seem off to me, along with some placements, but it's a good study for the time being...

The girl floating is rendered nicely too. She looks to have about 1487 things hanging on her shoulder, but that's coo...I like it...
