Portfolio content question-What should it look like?

Reading over the guidelines for a recent CHOW activity calling for an orthographic component I got to thinking that as I begin to put together a gaming concept art portfolio I may not be fully understanding how to go about setting it up properly. To this end I am curious as to some of your opinions on what should be included in a reasonable beginners portfolio.

What I mean is for example, (and I am over-simplifying I’m sure), should one have say-at least 2 character designs, 2 environment designs, 5 creature designs, 3 vehicle designs…you get the idea.

Is there a kind of industry formula, or just a good rule of thumb? I would just like to know, again as someone somewhat new to the industry, things like the minimum number of pieces one should have or what should definitely be represented, that sort of thing.

Anyway, your opinions would be appreciated, thanks in advance.

    To the air...

Anywhere from 12 to 20 pieces is generally a good idea. Try to keep it varied; have some things that would appeal to that specific employer, but put other stuff in there to show you have versatility.

I think you are awesome, and I wish you the best in your endeavors, but I am tired of repeating myself, I am very busy with my new baby, and I am no longer a regular participant here, so please do not contact me to ask for advice on your career or education. All of the advice that I have to offer can already be found in the following links. Thank you.
