    Wilderness Illustration

    I'm finally posting on ConceptArt after years of looming. Must be inspired by the San Francisco workshop coming tomorrowpld:

    Attached are some of my attempts at illustrating the wilderness of California.
    Any ideas or critique would be much appreciated.

    Peace & all good things,

    Jonathan Wolf

    Hi Wilderness

    I esp love images 2 & 3 - very evocative and have a real feel for atmosphere. They're great!

    Don't loom anymore...keep posting, it's lovely work!

    hello wilderness, this is my first time commenting on someone's work. i hope i dont screw this up i really like your collage piece. i especially like how you used a map for the background and water (looks like water). i havent seen anything like that on this site yet. im guessing thats because this site seems to focus primarily on technique, figurative accuracy, etc..which is great, but its nice to see something really different every once and awhile. the only suggestion i could make is to use that green patterned paper in more places. and/or maybe a small sliver of purple patterned paper off to the left. i think my eye tends to get stuck on the green patterned paper on the right.
    i also like the lighting in your Dawn painting and the Briones painting- the purple and blue shadows are nice in contrast to the bright yelllows. i think some of your other paintings could benefit from a similar variety in values and colors like in the briones paitning. maybe increasing the contrast could help? also, your Dawn painting looks like one of your best, imo. i like the composition, colors, and lightning. i just wish i could see a bigger version of it.
    hope this helps. ^_^;;

    Thanks Suhsealyuh! Great constructive crit! I really appreciate the feedback. You are right - I would love to incorporate stronger value and color contrast in my pieces - I have a tendency to make everything soft, fuzzy, and indistinct. I enjoyed checking out your work as well: Suhsealyuh. Definitely stay the course with your painting - your digital pieces are really strong as well.

    re

    Hehe, is that John Muir. I recognize him, but I think some of the features are a bit off. The background with concrete building and forest surrounding I think is one better paintings. The perspective is right on. Update your sketchbook.
