You don't wanna piss off Michael Crichton...

This March, Michael Crowley wrote a cover story in The New Republic hitting blockbuster novelist Michael Crichton's very public denials that global warming was a proved phenomenon.
....because he'll turn you into a pedophile in his next book!

Alex Burnet was in the middle of the most difficult trial of her career, a rape case involving the sexual assault of a two-year-old boy in Malibu. The defendant, thirty-year-old Mick Crowley, was a Washington-based political columnist who was visiting his sister-in-law when he experienced an overwhelming urge to have anal sex with her young son, still in diapers. Crowley was a wealthy, spoiled Yale graduate and heir to a pharmaceutical fortune. ...

It turned out Crowley's taste in love objects was well known in Washington, but [his lawyer]--as was his custom--tried the case vigorously in the press months before the trial, repeatedly characterizing Alex and the child's mother as "fantasizing feminist fundamentalists" who had made up the whole thing from "their sick, twisted imaginations." This, despite a well-documented hospital examination of the child. (Crowley's penis was small, but he had still caused significant tears to the toddler's rectum.)

    Also, Crowley's response:

There is an obscure publishing doctrine known as "the small penis rule." As described in a 1998 New York Times article, it is a sly trick employed by authors who have defamed someone to discourage their targets from filing lawsuits. As libel lawyer Leon Friedman explained to the Times, "No male is going to come forward and say, 'That character with a very small penis, that's me!'"

Wow. I thought Crichton was a shitty author before. Now I know he's a shitty human, too.
I think you are awesome, and I wish you the best in your endeavors, but I am tired of repeating myself, I am very busy with my new baby, and I am no longer a regular participant here, so please do not contact me to ask for advice on your career or education. All of the advice that I have to offer can already be found in the following links. Thank you.

I hope that those excerpts don't even fit in the book at all. Like, you're reading a story about a team of expert/scientist individuals who find themselves suddenly thrown together into an incredible and fantastic situation when, all of a sudden, this child rape paragraph drops in out of nowhere to ruin your day and is never mentioned in the story again. The characters all go back to solving their puzzles as though nothing had ever happened. I'd like that.

    MC: Yeah..go on.

Publisher: yeah...right after that. The whole rape thing.

    MC: yeah?

    Publisher: Um....?????

    MC: Good, right?

    Publisher: Um??? I...I...

MC: What? You don't get it? Did you even read the book?

Publisher: No..no, I did read it. I get it, i get it..i do. I swear. Naw..it's good. forget I said anything. Infact...we're printing it now.

MC: But that was the first draft?

Hahah, Seedling. I totally was thinking the same thing. What a turd! He was a doctor who denies a current scientific fact then turns some poor journalist into a fictional pedo? What a whiney loser!

Ahh, but not always. Who knows the person in question doesn't read the entire book but just a part of it because he was shown by a person he knows who got to that part? The author doesn't think out enough possibilities.
He will fail at some point and just fade away from the public eye.
It's a big risk to say the least.
