oh yeah?! well how about you spend 10 hrs at work NOT drawing.. only to have great inspiration on the way home.. but then it gets ripped away by rush-hour traffic on the 45 min drive home.. then have to run errands and clean up the mess my damn dog makes and pay bills and make phone calls and FINALLY 4 hrs later sit down to draw... only to learn you've lost all motivation to do anything but sleep...

How do you find the freelance artist market rates? and who hell sets them anyway? If what you ask for pays the bills and rent and gives you want you need then be happy. Greed is over rated.

FlipMcgee : Rating is one of the most difficult thing I can think of when doing art business. Altho not a freelancer anymore, this task seems so daunting at first sight it turned me off about a few side projects. :/

Today I was asked to translate some medical instruktions to a boy at work
    He's from Russia
Parents have been divorced for ages
Father is a soldier (a "Russian"- soldier)
    He's got cancer
Russian physicians couldn't help him and send him home, to go die
    Now he's in germany
not entirely on his own, his sister has got cancer too (she's already been isolated)
    both need a stemcell transplantation
If they find a suitable one, it most likely won't be enough for both
he started chemeotheraphy 3 days ago
    his chances are below 10%

    he's a 17 year old

Rates always confuse me, and I usually end up being the one that get's burnt.

I quote a job, estimate x hours and charge y appropriately. Job takes 3x hours with the same deadline, so i get paid y/3 and work myself into a coma. Nobody but myself to blame.

I'm currently trying out a strategy of "think of a crazy high amount of money, and then double it, and then double it again, and see if they blink"... so far so good.

blacky, that seriously puts life in perspective.. no matter how bad you think you have it, there is always someone who has it worse.
