Call0ps: Thanks! Glad you dug the wip!

Skeiff: Thanks for the compliment man, and thanks for stopping by.

Jim B: Ballpoint pen is ďda bombĒ. Well, itís what Iím most comfortable with anyway. Thanks for the kind words.

Light: Thanks YOU for the inspiration!

Looped Warrior: Glad you dig the doodles. Thanks.

Diego: I always start with a drawing (transparent red oxide) to get proportion and shapes right. I mix a mid tone for both shadow and light and try to apply variations in value and temperature accordingly. I learned using more of a direct painting method (see green, paint green, see red, paint red) with no laying down of mid tones. But now Iím learning how to lay down a base color and build slowly towards lightest lights and darkest darks. Hope that helps. Thanks!

    Bhanu: Thanks man!

    Ccsears: Thanks!

Soultek: Thank you. Yeah charcoal can be messy, but once you figure out any medium, it gets easier to work with. *note: I still havenít figured out charcoal to get what I want*

Hurricane: Thanks for the kind words and thanks for stopping by.

Kakapoopie: Thanks. No prob man, Iím really bad at getting back to people. Thereís so much good artwork on these boards, itís easy to get lost.

    Carnifex: Thank you!

    Calis: Thanks!

JLAlfaro: Thanks, Iím actually in school right now. Iím stressing since Iíve only got a year to get a portfolio togetherÖÖ so much to learnÖ..

Designboot: Thank you, and no problem!

    Abo: Thanks! I will!

Kronos: Thank you for the compliment!

Doudou: T.HA.N.K. Y.O.U! Glad you dig the work.

Work, work, homework, and drawing. Iíll post some paintings on Wednesday hopefully, if theyíre dry. Thanks to everybody for the words of encouragement, and thanks for checking out my sb.

You have an unique amazing style of shading. Love your anatomy (ehm, the anatomy on your drawings...:-) ) and the freshness of the sketches.
The "sgrunt" one (:-) ) it's great, amazing lighting on the knees.

    wow, this stuff is amazing.
I love the line work and hatching in your pencil drawings, and those head paintings on the last page are fantastic.

Would love to hear any advice you might have on portrait painting.

    Hello
Awesome pencil sketches! I love the way you hatch and describe the form!
And the paintings are great too. This one is my favorite. Great definition of the planes there.
    Keep having fun!

AmadorL: Thanks yo. I havenít been sketching much off of flickr or anything, mostly live models. I gotta take advantage of the free workshops while I can. Thereíll be a few weeks where Iíll have to ref from images after school ends for the summer. Iíll post some links then. Sorry about the wait.

    Flaskpost: Thank you!

    Sarcophagus: Thanks!

    ICH: Thank you.

Indi1288: Wow. Thank you very much. Stick around though, thereís tons of awesome and inspirational work on this site that offer a lot to learn from.

Hive mind: Thank you. Iíll do my best!

Voxelfog: Thanks. These are all done in ballpoint pen, it lets you build up your strokes. As far as portrait painting, Iím still pretty new at it but I think the same goes for painting as it does for drawing. Proportion, shadow shapes, and value. If you get those right, you are off to a good start.

    Sublimus: Thank you!

Carnifex: Thanks for the kind words!

    Windmaker: Thanks!

Atlantik: Thank you! Iíll do my best!

    Strych9ine: Fuckiní A, manÖ. Fuckiní A.
    Thanks!

    Howie: Thank you.

    Zeitgeist: Thanks

Thanks so much for the kind words peeps. Hereís two paintings from last week. I got out my flat tip brushes again, and tried to apply some of my pen stuff to my painting. It needs a lot more work, but I think itís going some where I like. Both of these were about 4 hours in class. Thanks again.

    Great paintings!
Actually it's almost clear to see that you keep the same approach you have from the pens.
The distinct planes and muscles makes it familiar.
    Very nice work!!

    DanielC: Thanks man!

Amadorl: Thank you. Still holding out on photos. Getting to those live models while I can.

Call0ps: Thanks. The skin tones are always hard

    Enthombed: Thank you.

    Mr. Delicious: Thank you sir!

More lectures (more like no shows by models for class) so less painting, plus more homework and less drawing. Hereís a couple from the past week that I was able to do, with some Bridgeman hands. Thanks for checking it out

very cool stuff. the shadow-mapping is done very well. i like how you indicate the core shadow, but still leave the shadow shape open for the soft edge gradations, etc. i remember struggling with it at first.

the model no-shows reminds me of something that happened to me back in school in Illinois:

the life drawing class across the hall had a no-show, so they took our model without telling us. just by pure coiincidence, this crazy homeless guy who had been stalking the art department walks in and tells our class he's the model. he refuses to undress completely, takes the stage, and then starts moving around unexpectedly--can't hold a pose for 30 seconds. then he starts talking while he's half-posing. he used to be a jazz trumpeter, etc. then he starts hitting on the female students in class and asking them if they like his "muscle tone."

the cops were finally called in to take him away. it turns out he had been applying to model at the school for months and months, but kept on getting turned down because he was obviously a bit drunk and wack.

    anyway, great stuff like usual.
