Welcome to CA Qwerty, very nice start to your sb. I really like your cross hatching work. Your really following the form of the faces with these portrait drawings. Keep up the good work. Also your facial structure has really improved from your first few post to now.

One thing I would say is you could really work on your values of the face. As of now everything really looks to be the same value in your cross hatching work. Push those dark areas more, the areas that are away from the light. Even if the picture doesn't have it learn to push your drawings further.

    keep up the good work

Here are a couple recent sketches. I spent about 2 hours on the head- is that a decent time for a concept artist to work within? I am newer to digital paint and am fumbling my way through- any advice would rock.

Good looking stuff. That character looks a bit like Jason Statham... heh.

Anyway, You've got great looking cross-thatching, and good expression and gesture, but some crazy looking proportions now and then.

    Looking forward to future posts!

wow thanks for all the comments all the sudden.

I can do the initial line sketch in a few minutes or so depending on the level of detail I plan to add later, but I often get caught up in variations on the chin, forehead etc. I also like to find the volume of the form through the rendering rather than with hard outlines, and as someone mentioned it is important to watch your proportions when you try that.

I'm still finding my way to a rapid, consistant digital painting process but with practise um you know.

    This is a great forum

    aaand some more.

I realized as this progressed that this looks like some kind of modern dance interpretation of fighting in tights but maybe as I keep working it will verge elsewhere

Critique - you seem to do your digitals as I did them when I first started out, & you need to start using larger brushes
and if you want to etch your digitals, you can use a etching brush

Try using a really large brush, and simply make it smaller and smaller for each level of detail you add - see http://conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?t=18980 for a pretty good example.

    some love.
you have some really good pencils though, and the anatomy way past my level.
