    concept:

The majestic kytes of Ileac never touch the harsh canyon rock they fly above until the day they die. They spend their entire lives in the air, devoid of feet and claws and eyes – instead they rely heavily on sonar, and represent nature foremost exponent of it. This unusual lifestyle called for a highly unusual mating process. The females spawn the eggs internally – up to 200 a year – which are then ejected one by one from her long tail. These unfertilized eggs then free fall through the air, and the blind males are required to fertilize them. During the mating season the skies are filled with “mating calls” – not to attract females but rather to pinpoint the trajectories of falling eggs using sonar. Catching the eggs without breaking them requires the male to dive down after the egg, achieving the same speed and acceleration, and then when close enough gently picking it out of midair with its mouth. The egg is then hoisted up into a shaft in the forehead, which forms a long shaft down towards the creature’s tail. The shaft also serves to fertilize the eggs, which remain at the tip of the male’s extremely strong tails until it hatches. Once hatched, the new born kite jumps from the tail and flies for the first and last time. 96.4% of the eggs, however, are never caught. But thanks to a lack of natural predators/killers the population seems to stay constant.

    The Bouncy Bouncy Bug
The Bouncy Bouncy Bug can be found in the temperate lands of Oogly-Poogly.
The procreation of this strange creature is unique. As the larger female bounces from one spot to the next while hunting, the smaller males (many of them at once) jump up and try and grab her lactoglands to get a sure grip so as not to get jiggled off. Often the first one to get the grip is the one that will impregnate the female, aslong as his grip is strong. While all this is going on the female seems totally oblivious to it.. quite a lot like some human females that I've heard about.

The Rainbow Rays of Cthu'Elek glide softly accross the skies like multicoloured kites. The tiny males have tongue-like genitals which are inserted into the female's bulb. Unfortunately, this bulb does not let go. After the implantation process, the male is 'pulled' in, and eaten by the female. Eventually, this species shall die out because less and less males will exist.

    concept:
    The Solace Dragon
Technically a misnomer, the Solace Dragon is actually a recently discovered species of Lizard. These creatures are noted for their bodily fluids and secretions, which serve as highly toxic hallucinogens. These toxins make the standard act of natural mating impossible; literally the creatures would be paralyzed by their own mate –mid act! Because of this, the Solace Dragon has evolved a large, flower like organ on the tip of its tail. During mating season, genetic information is passed from the flower of the male to the flower of the female via the pollination process of indigenous butterflies. Addiction to the hallucinogenic qualities may explain how the Solace Dragon seemingly keeps a ‘harem’ of said butterflies during its search for a nearby female’s flower, and females may even be attracted to the male with the largest harem, or most desirable ‘fluids’. (It is noted that scientist have yet to explain the toxin tolerance of the indigenous butterflies, which appear to be the only ones with immunity.)

    The Elecks
These unique lovers when born find love within their own siblings and rest each others heads next to each other. If the Elecks antlers merge within growth then are meant to be, but if they cannot get their antlers to merge they must kill themselves for they will never have a mate.
When the Elecks reach maturity and decide to mate, they must gorge on fruit from trees(their only way of finding food) and then break their spines and hip bones so they can have intercourse. After mating they slowly die as their children consume their nutrients and after 8 months the children begin to eat the left over carcass of the Eleck parents and the cycle repeats.

It is said there is no known end to the multiverse.
Case in point: every millenia, the Milleniumpoda, an ancient space-bound arthropod of galaxial proportion, manifests when it senses a celestial Oosphere in its proximity. As the Oosphere nears, the Milleniumpoda generates an array of brilliant color welcoming its mate. The next step is uncertain, but our hypothesis is that the Oosphere is engulfed into the mouth of the Milleniumpoda, where it releases millions of 'seed' that spirals down through the segmented body until it reaches the womb where everything from stars to planets, and so forth are formed. At some point, these creations are expressed and dispersed to add to the multiverse.
We've provided an inset in the upper right corner comparing the relative size of the Milleniumpoda and our planet Erf. Erf has been magnified 1:1000 to even show up on this chart.

THE PROMISCUOUS INCREDIBILUS GODENDUS or P.I.G. are easily found in the south part of Italy, where is common the belief that "Quantity" is better then "Quality".

    concept:
    Xivix
Xivix are highly evolved creatures descended from the earliest life to form in the universe. Xivix have abandoned their homeworld and their civilization billions of years ago, having achieved the ability to exist and travel freely in the vacuum of space naturally. Xivix travel at the speed of light, which completely arrests their aging procress. Xivix stopped reproducing their numbers about 6 billion years ago. Xivix sense the entire electromagnetic spectrum with their powerful minds.
Xivix believe in a universe of infinite variety in infinite combination. They also believe each has a single soulmate, somewhere in the universe: an identical twin made entirely of anti-matter. As the saying goes, if you travel far enough, you eventually meet yourself. A single Xivix may travel hundreds of millions or even billions of light years in such a quest.
When a paired Xivix and Anti-Xivix meet in space, a long psychic courtship begins. Careful not to touch each other, the two aliens exchange the whole of their knowledge and experience in a psionic dialogue that may last thousands of years. When both Xivix and Anti-Xivix are satisfied they know their mate completely, they exchange a single act of affection for one another. Very slowly, in a gentle, mirrored gesture, the twins raise their hands and touch fingers. When the matter and anti-matter come into contact, the two creatures annhiliate each other, allowing them finally to die together and rest in peace.

    POP Bellys
These strange creatures reproduce simply by curling up into a ball and connecting the egg with the sperm, the egg then pops out of the creatures belly and is left to grow on its own. While technically these creatures are A-sexual the dirty buggers like to trade sperm with each other, not for any exciting purpose. Its most likey to just make it that more interesting even if its over in a second. It takes 3 days to grow a new sperm but 4 for the egg.

    concept:

The Xylarian Needle Crown is a strange creature that spends the majority of it's life anchored to rocks, cliffs or walls. It grows to about 30 cm in length, but can extend it's body up to twice that length in order to spear prey with its' crown of needles. It then uses it's tongue to drain the fluid out of the creature.
It was recently discovered that the creatures engage in sexual intercourse purely for pleasure, and not just reproduction. The male reproductive gland is a hairy sack on its' back that fills with sperm. As it reaches full capacity the gland turns a bright blue. It is at this stage the female pierces the sack with her tongue and drinks the fluid from it. The female will perform the act whether she is pregnant or not, and it appears that both creatures get a sexual high from this act. The male has been observed hanging limp and unconscious after the ritual while the female sways rhythmically back and forth.
More research is being conducted as to the properties of the males sperm. Some hypothesize that it is a natural aphrodisiac.

    artist: JakkaS
    concept:
    Alkalesh
    Desert Queen and her court.
Females of this species are giants that constantly wander steppes and deserts in search for grass and water. Males on the other hand are living in small packs. They are much smaller then the female equivalents. An interesting fact is that they are avoiding females which could trample them. The only exception is during the mating time. Then females are proclaiming they are ready for mating. They are using horns which are connected with their nose, as a result some kind of tube is formed, which is making the sound so strong that it could be heard for many miles. When males are hearing this calling they are rushing in chase for females. Because their size is so different, the only hope for males to fertilize the female is to shoot the sperm direct into the females sexual organs. The nature is making this task a bit easier because males have their sexual organs on their backs. Usually this chase for females (they run because they want to choose the strongest and the most determined males) is very picturesque. In the clouds of dust and sand the whole procession is running through the desert and from time to time blue streams of sperms are shot through the air. Before the ceremonial is finished a lot of males is die of exhaustion or below the females hoofs.

Paolo13: well done, made my day! I like the idea and the execution.

Jakkas: A close second in my opinion, The camera angle could have been a little more action oriented/dramatic? BUT amazing quality as usual!

redehlet: as an artist, I always look forward to your entries.... so inspiring and different all the time keep it up!!

The execution and ideas all around were really interesting and fun to look at. Some had better ideas, and others better execution... a suprisingly short turnout this time though.

Jakkas got my vote, even if not finished, I think it is very professional.

Wood and Mr Man had a very nice ideas.

Banhatin and Red, the colouring is fantastic.

Blobs... he-he... what to say... Explicit and crowded... very nice spirit of teamwork.

Brendan and Michael and Davi, I envy your ability to deliver a drawing so complete and finished.

Insanity, u remind me of some French comic artist, very nice style.

Rodrigues, If I may, i think that you concentrated more on the colouring then on the characters. Please keep posting, these kind of activities really helps us improve.

    Amer very nice atmosphere

Jfwalls I like the creature texture, and how their ayes pop out from the drawing, maybe the backgrounds brush stokes are a little bit to big. But I am no expert, just learning myself.

    Ciao a tutti.

P.S. I can not see Davis drawing on this thread

Tough choice this week, but I ended up going with Jakkas. Simple, and well executed concept. For me the best part of the image is all the little males running around. I would've liked to have seen one or two trampled, or getting thrown into the air though. Just enough to add a little more action.

Even unfinished, Jakkas' work is more finished than most peoples finished. Plus its just simple and effective. You don't even really need the concept copy to "get it"... so he gets my vote.

I went for Paolo13.. great sense of humour and fun, and a cool concept.

Banhatin and Jakkas came a very close second/third for me.

Woodlandwalker gets a special mention for most gross!

Great all round guys, looking forward to seeing the next batch

Edit: Oh and I forgot to mention my thanks to everyone for their crits and comments.. thankyou

I voted for Paolo - the concept was great and it was illustrated with a lot of humor and character. I love the little cigarette blip and the expressions on both the creature's faces. Jakass and Brendan N, I love yours too. I feel like both creatures could be running around in the same enviorment. I would love to see them animated into some fantasy movie... they both have a really epic, grandiose feel to them. And Davi, brutal description man! Mating which results in death is a popular theme, but I think you capture the bone-crushing reality quite well.

As a first timer I feel honored just to be on the same thread as some of these works

I voted for Paolo....I think he had be form teh initial sketch...the humor as well as easy-on-the-eyes concept got me from the get-go...

Jakkas was a very close second...I too think the final lost something when you changed the head...i much preferred the shape of the initial sketch, I felt it went better with her body type. It's too bad you didn't get a chance to add more of the males and to have some be trampled the way you originally wanted. it's still a beautifully executed piece, even unfinished!

Brendan's piece is another beauty...majestic and elegant in execution.

Blobs piece is just plain cute and I personally really liked the exaggerated eyes...she just looks so oblivious!

    Great work guys!

paolo has my vote for this one. i liked the concept from the beginning but what wins me over is addition of emotion to each of the two characters. it's clever and made me chuckle a bit.

jakkas, your's is really tight as well. always beautiful to look at.

Some really great concepts and artwork. It makes it very hard to choose a favourite.
    Hmmm.

InsanityArt s Dragon are a really nice concept and I very much like the style.

Then the P.I.G. are simply hilarious and have a really great expression to them.
    Thumbs up for Paolo13.

But I think I´ll be rooting for JakkaS Alkalesh Desert Queen. Great artwork, cool concept and those little running dicks are just peachy. The blue sperm is a stroke of genius.

Voted Jakkas - I love the concept, it's not your average fantasy creature, lots of thought and style went into it and awesome execution. I do, however, feel that the composition could have been better, though it doesn't bum this one out at all. Stunning work man!

My other 3 choices were davi and banhatin and redehlert, with mr Paolo and blobs close on their heels!

Davi: Great painting man, well rounded, particularly like the linear approach you have. The concept is killer, and I actually kinda like the rosy frame even if most others don't. Solid work!

banhatin: Awesomeness! Love the colours, but you should explain your concepts more! I'd love to read the science behind this one. Your colours really stand out, and though I think you could have taken the graphic design in the bg a bit further, I'm digging it a bunch. Solid work!

Paolo: Fun concept though the piece doesn't feel finished for me. It works for conveying a concept but to me it fails as an autonomous artwork. Good work though, fun concept and I totally dig the expressions on their faces!

blobs: Funny! Well illustrated, cool concept! My only crit is that you should not have made the creature predominantly the same colour as the bg, since it's struggling to pop out of the comp I think.

Redehlert: Wow Dave, stunning entry, also one of my faves! Digging the colours man, as I've said before I dig your colouring. Either mister Seegmiller has been working you guys out or you've really stepped up a bunch man. Grats grats, stunning entry.

    Woodlandwalker:
That's fugging disgusting haha! Great concept, had me in stitches. I'm liking the individual illustration, especially the colour, though I feel your page layout and design is keeping this great concept back! When you design a page layout as you have, consider the elements of your page as you would in a painting - left aligned text for instance does not work as well as justified text, sans serif reads easier than serif! Remember one reads from left to right, top to bottom - consider this when placing text and illustration! Killer concept though, great to see another humourous approach!

amer-nazri: Cool concept, and not a bad painting! As for crits - I feel your subject isn't popping out of the comp enough, desaturate the background and make it a bit cooler. Also work some juicy details into the focal point. Nice entry.

InsanityArt: Really nice concept, but I think you should have taken the painting further! Your creatures are blending in with the environment too much and I'm not feeling a definite focal point! Throw in some of the poisonous slime dripping off of them too, add some juicy details! Like their expressions!

Michael: I'm totally digging the insane amount of thought you put into your concepts, that's a wonderful execution and a solid piece of art. My only real crit would be that there's that reddish eclipsed planet/sun between them, but since it's leaning more to the left, it's throwing the symmetrical composition off balance. I think it should be balance on the other side with something of equal weight. Killer work man.

rodriguez: Nice concept, but your painting still needs a lot of work I think! Your creature isn't casting shadows on the ground as it should and I think you should take a look at his anatomy - right now he has a bit too much of a stuffed animal feeling if you know what I mean. Also, make him the smae colour as the female so we know they're the same species.
they will also pop out the comp then!

Mr Man: haha, looks like Chucky meets the gingerbread man! Is that the seed of Chucky? Really nice concept, liking the painting too, all it needs is some more details and some colour! Really nice entry!

jfwalls: Really nice work, I think this is the most original design in this batch. like the colouring and well done on the shading, nice form! Hot concept too, unique take on the subject! Solid work, well done man!

K, that about wraps it up for this round. Won't be able to make the next round - were off to holiday the day after tomorrow, be back on the 15th. Hopefully I'll have time for COW#71!

And thanks for the vote JakkaS!
    ciao!

Voted Paolo13, Although it was hard choosing between him and Jakkas. I think I liked Jakkas version better when it had the hair and old horns. And maybe the blue glowing seed is a bit sci-fi.

Anyway, Paolo's entry, while it has a bit unfinished look in the presentation part, is a very good concept.

No c&c from me, I kinda did that before the deadline.

haha...so do you wanna vote for someone else though? Even if your work is the best in your eyes?

Wow, had I known this poll would turn out so one-sided, I would not have voted for Paolo. I was actually the first to vote here

I agree with banhatin - there are several strong pieces here and they deserve more votes. banhatin's piece is cool and I know from experience how it feels when you put a lot of time in to a piece, think it is quite good - and then you receive a total of 2 or 3 votes whereas someone with a goofy entry takes everybody down. Not that there is anything wrong with goofy, as long as it is well executed, as in Paolo's case.

banhatin, rest assure, your piece didn't come so short on votes because of technical shortcomings. It is a strong piece!

my vote goes to paolo13 for his clever idea and thoroughly charming execution.

    Further nods to:

Banhatin - love the colors, poses and expressions

Jakkas - i like the concept and your painting reads well, the dull perspective and stiff pose and expression of the female hurts it a bit.

Woodlandwalker - Gross and i love the medical pamphlet execution.

this is probably the first round that i seriously drop my interest in concept+text+execution and just go for concept+text. that winner is paolo13.
of course, i have my misgivings about having erect thingies that are pounced upon by a weighted entity with orifice thingies from above....
it needs a warning label like "don't try this while aroused at home...could cause pain and suffering". lol. seriously though...it would have to be a perfect drop to not cause one of them pain, but it made me laugh and smile....and that goes to show that it doesn't have to be insanely rendered to be successful.
blobs was my number 2 choice. nice atmosphere and creatures!

    cheers!
