    taboo's Cartoon Buffet Express

Edit: This first post is about three years old as I type this. please look at my newer artworks!

    thanks

    ------------------
So, hello! This is my first post here, and I'm a little nervous with some of the talent floating around. At any rate, I hope I'll fit in and all that. =) Ever since Yerf died, I've been looking for a good artistic community to help me grow into the artist I hope to be some day.

Anyways, c&c is definentally welcome. I don't generally draw nudes, but I may throw in the gory piece or two. Thanks for viewing!

Don't be nervous, some of the guys doing great work now weren't so hot when they started out...take a look at some of the early sketchbooks adn you might be suprised!

You've got a really nice sense of character here, but it could be improved a lot with a greater knowledge of real life anatomy.

Are you thinking of making a full blown comic with these?

Oh, and what have you been doing your digital stuff in?

Well, I'm hoping. I'm gonna get started drawing it this December.

Oh, and what have you been doing your digital stuff in?
They're just some doodles I did in Oekaki.

I would reccommend more life drawing. Go out and draw people on the bus or where ever. You seem to be relying on a few stylizations that don't yet have a personal style they look pretty generic. The polkadot freckles the hastching under the chin. Id love to see more work that has a more personal touch to it.

Nice cartoons, lots of fun, used to watch naruto all the time. I lol'd at the sand sculpture.

a note on the life studies, I'd watch out for the values, they seem a little off as a unit, especially in the 2nd lady's face.

You're off to a good start here, Taboo! It's clear that you enjoy what you do, and that perhaps is more important than anything else. If I might offer just a bit of critique - it's very difficult to develop a credible and unique comic/cartoon style without a thorough knowledge of 'natural' methods and techniques, so if you want to push a voice of your own, you should definitely follow that advice about more life drawing! And don't be afraid to fill a page with different subjects - this is the sketchbook section, after all

    Keep it coming!

I completely agree with what Idiomatic as said, its cool to be inspired by a certain style or genre, but in the end what are you going to say with your art that hasn't already been said. I do believe its near impossible to be completely original but the challenge is to be unique with similar subject matters. Keep rocking taboo, very fun sb.

You've got a nice stylization. Just keep drawing from life and observing a lot and your stuff will realy rock.
