IDW 0026: Rebel Suppression
Topic: Rebel Suppression
Background: 2280. The government is losing control over it's people. Rebel leaders are popping up everywhere and it's becoming increasingly difficult to deal with them. The goverment is looking for a technological solution that will suppress the uprising.
1. Design a product or system that through force, coercion or some other means keeps the populace under control.
2. The government needs to retain some of it's working force - a large scale slaughter or mutilation would create more problems.
Deadline: Saturday 9th December

RSB - Rebel Suppression Buoys
The Pax Galactica has survived a century of famine, disease, and innumerable invasions. Our iron fist and uncompromising tactics have brought us nothing short of fruition... until now. Public support is wavering following months of rebel insurgency. Apparently, our aggressive tendencies, when enacted upon members of our public, are less than tolerated. As a result, the Imperial Applied Sciences division has developed a new instrument to aid in our controlling of the rebel forces. The USMC-RSB, called the "Rebel Suppression Buoy," utilizes state-of-the-art, less-than-lethal technology to immobilize our enemy without any threat of casualty. Deployable by both ground and air forces, the RSB is delivered as a compact cannister comprised of hyper-dense, depleted uranium alloy. When remotely activated, the cap extends upward, exposing it's resonating core. The core emits continual low frequency waves that, upon contacting an organic life form, instill extreme discomfort and illness, rendering the target neutralized. With an effective radius of one kilometer, several of these devices may be deployed throughout the capital to establish a rebel free safety grid. Full scale implementation is scheduled to take place by the end of first quarter 2281.ambition makes you look pretty ugly

hello, i am new to here, well i have been lurking here watching you pros bring out outstanding designs for some time now..
here is my concept.
the hypontizing crowd control unit - this rail travelling gps controlled machine is startegicly placed and blocks down uprising crowds with its square shielded sceen, it then send out alpha waves from the green transmitter making the people draw to its screen, on the screen it projects hypnotizing images while the controller speaks out directions and order via its big speakers placed on its shoulder.
i know its pretty lame - but the hypnotize image on the screen is pasted.

Welcome aboard, m8!
I like your concept but I think you should revisit your rendering a bit.
It's very soft and airbrushy at the moment... maybe you did a lot of burning and dodging? Whatever the event... try to crisp up your values a little bit. Define your lines as well w/varied line weight and things of that nature.
Take a crack at designing your own hypnotizing image as wellambition makes you look pretty ugly

Due to the slow participation I'm thinking about extending this a week and putting in place 2 week deadlines over the holiday period.
Or am I just posting bad topics?
How does everyone feel about that?

finally in time
this is my first image post here(finally i dared to put it).i think ur idea was amazin flip an i was actually slow in posting as my exams are going on.
so here is my idea (i'l render it a bit more l8r if you extend the deadline)
this is the 8th design which finally went for production for riot control dept. its fires a membrane capsule from its container. this capsule is made of such material that it'l open up in 5 sec after it comes in contact with co2 which is abundent in air.this concentrate when open reacts with oxygen an forms a thick foam that will cover anything it comes in contact with.one container can have three capsules at a time, with one capsule havin enough concentrate to cover anything in a radius of 5 ft.the capsule has itself been designed this way that it wil open on from front as its membrane is very thin from there.since this gun needs to shoot at long distances in less time it needs power hence it will recoil.thats why support has been put below whose height can b changed and it absorbs gun recoil with a hydrolic shock absorber right below the gun.hope you like it

My 2 cents. I think the material you have been selecting is fine. And I am not sure stretching out to 2 weeks is going to benefit. that may be to much time. all this is personal opinion of course. but I like pretty much knowing that my deadline is Saturday sometimes stretched to late or even Sunday, but if I had not come up with an idea, that Friday afternoon, I could go look and see what is next and brainstorm. I find a week is enough, when I get an idea I like, to get the work created, and finished, and if I had pushed, get it done as well as I know how. anything more than a week, leads me to believe I can procrastinate, not that I would mind you
I dont know why things tend to drop off from time to time. I know for me, just lately, its been a time issue with other projects. (well, one of them I simply never came up witha reasonable idea so did not participate) I am going to assume some of the others have the same thing. You might expierment, without hopefully getting blasted for being to generic, pick a couple of similar topics and run them for more than a week, see what is popular or pulls in more folks, and you will see what works and what doesnt. Just an idea. I sure would hate for you to loose interest because it gets slow. It seems there is always someone calling for this challange, but it always tends to turn slow for some reason. so I would hate to see it die off, even if I cant particapate each time.
D.I only live for today, but I'm one day behind.

i agree, flip. i think 2 weeks stretches it out just a little too much... i know that i'm exceptionally busy this time of year at work and have trouble squeezing in sketching but a longer period would only make me procrastinate.
as for topic selection, the last two have been spot on. i liked the advanced mobility one a lot; i just haven't had the opportunity to really flesh it out.
i have a very solid concept for it though so i may visit it at some point anyway.ambition makes you look pretty ugly
