some really good updates Carnifex, the lava swimmer is looking good, though a background would help it pop, and the first, and last in the last batch are hot.

    keep it up

Wow! I love how you progressed with that lava swimmer! With some of the less tweaked lines, I wish you were going to keep doing progressions. But I'm loving the detail on the front of the creature!

Background...hmm. Darker will definitely bring it out more!

Oh, and your sketches keep getting better! ^_^ I love seeing the improvement!

you killed off form and depth, especially with those yellow scribbles, as they have almost the same value/hue even in shadow - making the piece flatter then before.

well in other words think it improved, but you lost some of the form on the way.

i agree with dan, but i think that COW turned out pretty good in the end, nice work.I would have added some lava splashes or something in the small pic tho.

great improvement in these days anyway, keep up the good work

Ooooh, the scene reminds me of a dream I had! O_O Wow...the creature's detail (in the second-last picture) is very nice in detail!! I noticed how some was lost, but how you managed to put a great deal back! ^_^ Awesome!

How did you get the last picture looking so bright? Was it colour dodge/burn or something else?

Love your preggie. And the lava swimmer is turning out good.

It looks from your pencils that you could need some cleaning up on lines, but you seem to work it out on the digital stuff... I might've done some line stuff pencil/pen wise

Had to post after reading that you're also a fan of Andy McKee. The guy's got great technique and musicality, whereas a lot of guitar virtuosos have a tendency to wank if you know what I mean. You should also check out Michael Hedges, but I'm sure you already have. Cool lava swimmer.

Nice pencils, and really liking the lava swimmer. I see great improvement from the first page till now. Just keep pushing. How much time do you normally spend on some of your more refined sketches? Oh thx for posting that radio link in the previous page, nice stuff. Happy drawing

Cool concept! And you've stuck with it and improved it! Good stuff!! I like the version with a lot of contrast... not too sure about the grain-filter though... but still... looks good! More more more!

aight, sorry for the lack of updates, university is keeping me busy :/

    gnoll,sorkness,armando,smokey -thanks
jazzw -just bumped up the contrast on figure and background.
yautja - depends. if i'm tryin to make a finished pencil piece,it can take up to a good 5-6 hours (pauses not included).
dcept - used the grain filter to make it look like a blurry, overexposed photograph taken hastily.

small fast and pathetic digi doodle, albeit rather fun to make.

    orthos are pretty hard, huh?
The gesture studies are pretty good, you should do really a lot of them, even small in size...challenge yourself by doing 100, 150 or 200.It helps
Quality of the pencils has improved a lot, just keep challenging yourself with different subjects.

    keep sharing

    zhuzhu,hehe,thanks.
gnoll-haha you bet i should indeed do thumbs more often again.

just some crappy selfportraits today, although fun to make. trying to get the significant lines right without too many tries.
