BenjaminL - thanks, I'm not sure I agree about me having the grasp on colour and light, colour maybe, but I have a long way to go to improve my lighting and finally stop forgetting about cast shadows! About the detail yes, it should have a character even if it's just a pile of dirt

Fetsch - Always happy to inspire!

theUNKNOWNsketcher - meci chovek!(if I'm not getting the language wrong )

Nartano - many thanks to you too.

Here's some more that I don't believe I've posted around those parts, some character this time.

question: do you always do values first and then color over?
(loaded down some of your stuff for reference, hope you don't mind)

    More amazing work Calader.
Really loving your work like the Yellow Armor guy and those vehicles on the page before. They have such nicely 'planed' forms, so theyre very readable in 3d kind of way. Looks really good.
Dont mean to asspat, I guess I should of said that some of the other work can seem a bit flat sometimes. I think your pictures definitely look better when you have that very clear sense of space.

Amazing work though, keep it up.
Thanks for the great crits in my SB too, I appreciate it lots.

    100 Heads and Approaching Lights

    Hello again,
Zeitwolf - not always, but maybe 2/3 of the times yes. It deckhands sometimes I'll go into colour really early sometimes later. It's faster to start with colour form the beginning but not necessaries easer. I'll try to post some more work in progress images. And another thing is I'm always experimenting with process and style. For the refs I don't mind at all I'm happy to be of help!

PHATandy - Thanks man, and you're definitely right about thins often looking flat. This has been a main issue for me for a long time, and I'm slowly fixing it. It mostly results from me paying to much attention to design, composition and colour and not so much to light, materials and volumes. I think tones of still life and other such studies should help when I get the time and mood to do them . Thanks for reminding me, it's always a good thing.

Tom Fenton, Alfy, GabrielVerdon, masterphil31 - thanks people !

Windmaker - reminded me go get myself a sturdy helmet! Thank, anyway and you're constant motivation for me too!

velinov - Thank you, it's sways and honour to hear that from you!

    raminafshari- Thanks!

OK, here's another 100 things exercise, heads this time. Most of them really bad attempts some not so bad. The important thing learned tons of thing, thing's that I do wrong and many I need to improve or concentrate more on. Here's a list of some.

    - Increase format, tiny moleskin is nice quick and comfortable, but the lack of "resolution" messes your proportions and often the sense of scale. Makes you miss things.

    - Pay more attention to perspective in faces, try and exaggerate it when needed. Yes it's there especially when the viewer is very close to the subject.

    - Pay more attention to subtleties and detail, something the larger format allows.

    - Fill in my visual dictionary with greater variety of expressions, not only extremes, but ones expressing more subtle feelings too.

    - Do more studies from life and reference. Those are never enough. And are especially useful after s loon series you've tried to pull out of your head.

    - There's maybe more.

note: some heads might be missing, because done on separate sheets or SBs if I manage to track those down and scan them I'll add them here

Oooh! I loves me some faces! Also, I'm taking note of your... notes. But, yeah. You can never get enough practice from life and ref.
Also, the environment is pretty cool. I really like the drawings on the rocks!
    Thanks for the inspiration!

P.S. No helmets will be able to save you! Now, be afraid!

    The Streets

thanks guys for the kind words.
I've been away for a while, I'm back now to finishing my pile of started sketches and not so speedy speeds. Here's one, and some wip stages showing some unfortunate twists and turns this picture has gone trough.
