Oh man , oh man, seriously guys, bare with me for a sec, i need to get this out.

So, i study graphic design, right, im on my 8th semester with only 2 more to go, one of the asignatures i have is research laboratory or i dunno how would be a good translation. Its basically about how to make a tesis and prep for the last semester when you do your final graphic project. Its not a design class per se, its more about building the teory behind a project so to say.

The profesor for my section is the biggest, most pretentious, pompous asshole son of a bitch that i have ever had the bad luck of meeting. Since minute one from class one everyone hates this guy. About 10 people dont enter the room again and dropped the class, (not the usual stoners or dropouts, good students i have seen class with before.)

He has the worst kind of personality a person can have. Is the one guy no one for no reason would want to talk to but yet thinks is Oscar Wilde and the soul of the party. He treats everyone with a condescending attitude, rolls his eyes, no one can speak in his presence because he will start spurting his pretentious opinions about any subject, (mostly silly shit any teen who read a sinopsis on wikipedia can come up with) even when no one is talking at him, he just burst into conversations.

I was proposing a subject with illustration , were my graphic pieces would be characters based on local legends and myths, that could be used for games or trading cards, or general entertaiment i took as an example this one of mine i did last year, nothing perfect, sure anyone here could find a lot of flaws, been critiqued on that actually, but i had examples of the rough sketches and design references to go with it, you could see the process which was kinda the point.

This guy grabs it from me before the class even began, he holds it with two fingers like it was a warm fudgy diaper and looks at it with the most disaproving face he could phisically make for a few seconds , he rolls his eyes and says with the most condescending accent:
"So , is this really what you do?" wihile looking at me and raising an eyebrow

    "yes"

He doesnt hand it to me, he drops the page on the table and rolls it towards me with an offensive gesture, while making a very loud "pfffffft" and he turned his head from me.

This is the closest i have ever come to standing up and punch someone in the face in years. I though i was going to explode. And this was before the class, still 2 hours i stood there listening to him and his blabbery, much of it spent on me. He talked about how my tastes were stupid, how videogames were silly and mindless US garbage, how im just ignorant and dont know any better, and that i dont know nothing about illustration. Yeah, fuck the dude in the Metallica shirt and denim talking but them silly character thingies.

There are always asssholes in your way but maaan, this one took the cake Downright insulting. You know what that makes me do? Work fucking harder . All weekend i worked out harder, i did studies until late in the night, i fucking read stuff i was meaning to. Because ending up in life being someone like that is the most godawfull thing i can imagine. And i want to do wathever it takes to get as far as possible from being anything resembling him.

Right now i am more determined than ever. Thanks to the biggest douchebag in the world.

BUT heres is the really really funny part and this is what screamed "Cheer me Up Thread Material"

THIS IS THE GUYS BLOG WITH HIS "ART"

Literally, my sides hurt from laughing too hard. Im sharing the shit out of that links with the other guys in the class so we can all have a chuckle any time that guy opens his mouth to make an opinion about any of us for the rest of the semester/ our lives.

Id only hope people could read the descriptions he wrote for the image, comedians cant come up with stuff like that.

ReneOchoNueve: I was taught by similar individual back in my high school years. Woman teaching figure and still-life drawing was doing "triangles in cosmos" for a daily basis. You know - bad taste quasi modern interior decoration paintings. She tend to look down at everyone at class, shit talking every single piece we'd produce. There even was one student from Belarus who came especially to our school to learn drawing. We were in third class and he was waaaay more skilled and gifted than final class people. You know I'm talking about those rare figure drawing mathematicians who could do curves with the ruler. All he ever gets from our super-world-class teacher was "pfff..." Great that you can benefit from the experience. Take care!

    How's that saying go?

    Those who can't, teach.

    Those who can't teach, criticize.

People who say you can't are the people who don't want you to succeed.

Wow, that's all kinds of bad! And I agree, get out of there. I had a tutor in illustration that wouldn't even bring her work to show us, the only picture she did bring in was a photo of her dressed up as Frankenfurter during her Rocky Horror college period. The guys on the course loved her

Thanks all guys, i had that bottled up for the whole weekend and when i saw that link last night it really threw the ball outta field lol

@ Iambanana haha thats funny, but did you noticed how the blog has 0 comments? with him sharing it on his signature in the mail and all, actually 0 people really respect that guy already so i think it fits leaving it his page so to reflect just that hes not really worth it

@ Nubb, thanks a lot man, is makes things less frustating when you know other people have shared that feel at some point. Doesnt seem to have affected your work, looking rad, im sure the Belarus students either. Frustated people dont have nothing on determined people at the end of the day.

Its something i cant really assimilate, or cant think of an excuse for it to be acceptable.
And like i mentioned, i study graphic design, the faculty is shared with architecture, theres not even a remote excuse to hire someone with that kind of... umm.. work here.

The class is supossed to be theorical and i think he does have a degree in humanities , it wouldnt even matter as much that he is the worst self proclaimed artist ever if he werent an such an asshat, he is seriously stepping in the wrong territory.

But since keeping good teachers here has proven to be more complicated matter than it should (just pay them better?), thats what happens, that you might get decent/good ones with actual experience or you might end up steping in quick sand of mediocrity every now and then.

Laugh all you want but you're the one that needs to leave that program. Seriously. Not bailing from the shitty art program I attended might possibly be my biggest regret I have. Don't support a faculty that uses academia as a shelter from the real world because they can only teach you to do the same.
You have a good point, its really only ones fault at the end to just conform with things.

This particular asignature is not an actual design class, is one (of two! my god!) thats pretty much standard for every career, its obligatory in the program and theres only a couple teachers for it.

Hasnt been my style, i have already run to the hills a couple times with teachers that are not so good, changed sections or have entered at 2 diffferent ones on the same asignature for the a whole semester to get the most. But its not much of an option now, and being a thorn in our shoes is what he wants.

Everyone in the class is in the last year, have starting jobs or interships in design already or pursuing more studies specializing in other things. We just want to graduate in our due time and get the hell out to move on with life, so our hands are tied with douchemeister messing with our patience for the time being.

We also work in pairs, its kind of a bad move to leave the other teammate hanging by itself like that.

More smell but less bad attitude, i can go for that. Hell, id vote for it if he ran for president.

haha Reminds me of one that showed me in his cellphone a picture of him as Ghost from CoD, Dude spent a small fortune on the prop gun and all. Actually the outfit was kinda cool, the man took his hobby to heart.

I have already met more nutty people than i can count, more than i would ever care to meet. Some are ok giving in their thing and just have some loose screws, some teachers that are not so good in their own work do put up their class fairly well and give you encouragement and say usefull things, and others are just the whole package of wrongness.

    @ReneOchoNueve

I'm having a very similar situation in the sense that I'm not learning anything of practical use for my work. The program in my university for painting is really weak, right now I need 3 more courses of painting to graduate (already took Painting I and Painting II) and there wasn't any other courses except for Large Format Painting. That means that if the situation keeps going this way I'll have to take multidisciplinary courses like for example "instalation" or "performance" to fill the requirements for the "painting courses". I realised too late that it was an error to study painting here, I would have go to History of Art or Literature which was more practical for my work in terms of themes and context and in the pure sense of learning something which is not happening in the Fine Arts program that I'm doing.

Anyways, I decided that I will finish the degree anyways, there are only two semesters left and I'm not really paying any money because I have grants and I enjoy the campus enviroment enough to stay for two semesters more. Also I took alot of courses on literature, history and philosophy that I don't regret taking and were worth the time. Another reason is that my dad didn't finished university in his young years and I want to give him the satisfaction to get that degree because I know it means alot for him. My plans after graduation would be saving money to apply to an academy like the Illya Repin Academy in St.Peterburg or the Russian Academy of Florence, or perhaps a more viable one which is to take a few workshops and work on my own from there.

Anyways here is what I came to share:
