the latest environment is looking good, nice detailing on the mountains and the forest. My only concern is the color of the river. Shouldn't it have a bit more of the sky's blue in it? Anywas great job mate.

    Hehe, Dwight.

The last three enviro's are very nice, especially the snowy one with the bright orange jacket for that little bit of "umph".

Let's just quickly go back to the first page for a moment:

    http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2.../Process-1.jpg

Just putting 2 cents in: Try not to use so many lines when defining the facial features on younger women. On guys you can get away with it since we tend to have more blockish faces than girls... but if you go overboard on either gender then the lines can look like aging wrinkles. I actually didn't know that the cartoon was of a young lady until seeing the reference shot shortly after.

The creases in the cheeks seem to be too deep, or rather the bottom halves of the wrinkles do. Notice how in the reference photo, the big creases either side of her mouth appear deepest around the top, and are more so just shallow "shading" around the bottom, you could stop the creases higher up and just use shading to define the cheeks shape from there downward.

It's the same with the small wrinkles just next to *her* left eye (stage-right for us), they don't really need to be there. Ben Caldwell is one cartoonist where I learned that you can get away with leaving many details out, if it helps the overall look of the image, and stops it from being overcomplicated.

I know that defining shape with lines is part of your style, and that's fine; but before you do *ANY* pen stroke you really need to ask yourself just what it will do to your image. With cartoons, every stroke counts, and sometimes it will be more worthwhile to leave one or two of them out.

Really great pieces you have here. I hope to be able to have a colourful enviro. painting like the one you have further up this page someday.

    Laters!

mimar sinan - Thanks for the crit, its funny you should say that cause I invested another 45 minutes into him adding highlights, but I just couldn;t get it to work. I may give it another try though.

BlightedArt - Really appreciate you taking the time to write the crit. I couldn't agree with you more! In fact she said the same thing to me, "I look like an old lady" I learned from that piece and went for a much softer look in this one for someone else:

It wasn't too long ago that I dreaded enviro's, but now I love em. Grab some photo refs, and go to town. Nature one's are easier too not as much perspective and and it allows a little more freedom. I hope to tackle some urban enviro's but one step at a time. Best of luck, thanks again for the words of encouragement.

Oh, and here's another speedy enviro..

Cool stuff, I really like your paintings! Your cartoons have a lot of character too.
