Ahh, those life sketches are so elegant. And I love seeing the conceptual stuff here. More, please.

Your one of the top crust here on the site. I'd love to have a peak to see how exactly youre using the right side of your brain. Your really are a prototype for us all.

I'm quite sure that your trash can is full sketches that I'd have love to have created and would have been my life's achievement.

What I'm saying is great work and continue!

I haven't stopped here in a while. I really love that last batch of figures. I love those lines just sweeping down. It gives them an ethereal feel. Mind blowing, as usual. Can't wait to see what you post next.

I miss all my Concept Art pals. Time for some new posts. Have several, but will start with some figures for now.

Hi Brendan, Always very happy for your visits. Thank you for all your support.I'm glad you like the critter, but since, I may pull it to put up a newer version, after some incredible advice from a local pro. But thanks for the props.
Hardsoapscum Thank you! I like mechas and will continue to explore this theme as time permits. Hope I can make them kickass designs.
Sonaj Nice to see you here, again. Thanks for coming to say hello. I have been doing what I can as circumstances permit. Without an outlet to my creative side I would go mad. But I know that a solid foundation in anatomy and just general comp principles must be refined or my progress will remain mediocre.
As for pencil.....I have used Generals, Conte's but basically stay with Art Alternative Ritmos alway in medium. Too soft and I feel like I lose control for finer strokes.
Thank you for your nice words.
Wareagle Thanks! I appreciate yout comments. Very kind of you to throw stars this way. Glad you didn't mind my advice and found it useful.
Bhanu Heya! Thank you! Always appreciate yout visit and advice.
    Enthombed Thank you.
Hey Q Always glad when you leave comments. Yeah, just letting loose, allowing whatever comes out to live is really kinda therapeutic. That's the cool part of concepting. NO boundaries come what may. I find mech design interesting.
Funny. One of the crits I got from a pro was to remember that form follows function.
So, ya made some good points. Thanks for, considering this critter, enough, to crit.
Silvestri99 Thank you. And yes, you get out there and draw!
BludHund HI and thank you. Will try to throw out a few more ideas on paper and see what I can make of them to post.
    ^Slayer^ Thank you.
Banshax That's so nice of you to say. Life sketching is just such a pleasure for me.
    Can't ever stop.
Bojee Thanks! My favorite activity is quick-sketch. To think of all you know and try to place or emphasize different aspects of it in a small period of time, is the best experience for growth, I think.
Nethus Thanks so much for your nice comment. Quick sketch is the best past time.
Mikehan Never stop learning and trying and you can't help but grow. It's all mileage!!
NicoRaven Thank you. That's very flattering you think so. So many amazing artists on this site. I will forever be humbled by so much talent. Sometimes I keep the yucky ones to figure out what went horribly wrong. Always keep your eye on the goal. Never quit.
Chromosome! Thanks for stopping by. Excellent quote in your sig. That's wat it's all about. Staying with it. I appreciate your evaluation of my figures. You are one talented individual. Love looking at your work.
    MAX!!! Um, oky doke.
    BRENDAN!!! See above.

These were recent drawings, until i took forever to post. Am losing some of the finesse. What I am sorely aware of is the need for deeper anatomy understanding, which will bring confidence in the describing stroke of the form. Sigh. There are some other exercises I will post, soon.

Most all are 3-8 minute poses, the more value ridden ones are abut 10-20. Last 2 about 2.5 hours.

Thanks to everyone for gracing these pages with your comments.

Ha! I was wondering whether your visit was a foreshadow to an update - hurray!
You make me want to sit in the corner and go out and draw everyone I see at the same time. These figures are stunning, overall I like the shorter ones the most since I am tragically addicted to energy, suggestion, subtlety and intrigue. Of course the longer studies are great because they take care in explaining everything - but that's why I like the shorter gestures more; leaves more to the imagination.

The values on all of them are impeccable - controlled enough to make complete sense, with enough surprise areas to create visual interest. As for crits I can say that just here and there there are features that seem just a tad off - but it's hardly worth mentioning; there's too much good overpowering it.

Looking forward to the rest, as well as the update on the critter! Keep us updated!
    cheers!

    Brendan Noeth

    Hey Aztec

That's quite a victory for a 1st speed paint! You have very loose and suggestive brush strokes, loose colours - not limited palette of more rendered paints - and fun vibe with the painting. Lots of people still get stuck on details and rendering with speedpaints - which I believe to be a bad thing. Kudos on nailing attitude!

As for crits - this one could use some more tonal contrast and perhaps a more centered focal point, but no big issues. As for crits on the previous work - no, it's really not worth it: saying things like "some eyes look a bit big" is completely missing the point of gestural drawing . So, for the figures, no crits!

    cheers Aztec, keep rocking!

    Brendan Noeth

Yet again I am awed by your handling of the figure. Would you say that the best way to learn to draw the figure is hours of work from direct observation? (dumb question I know, but I just want to hear you say it.)

You mentioned using geometric shapes to set up the figure when working from reference. Are you saying that initally look at it as flat, then develop the perspective when you have the pose correct?

A little crit, that may be wrong as I didn't can't see the reference, but...
For the first of the two-hour poses, her head looks a bit to large compared with the rest of her body.

Wow that's the first time I've ever seen you make a proportional mistake, and it might not even be a mistake. Thats pretty darn amazing. It's a shame you don't post more often, you inspire us all.

    Hey,

Haven't been able to go to quick sketch lately... how are you doing? i finished taking some classes at gnomon--sculpture, character design, etc.

i just got permission to take 2 months off of work to do some independent study/portfolio develpoment with mike butkis, and i'll be taking nathan's class at laafa starting in july. been over to watkiss' house once too. adi is back from italy, and i met up with her and jackie not too long ago.

a few people i know might be getting together on the weekends to draw occasionally, and i've heard of a few underground-type things during the week. anyway, keep up the good work and drop me a line at my gmail account sometime.

Nice "dorky" landscape. Digital painting can be a lot of fun. But really I'd like to see more figures.
