OKAY... the time has come... finally I can talk about my new comicproject.
But first some information about my work for 'Tales from the Crypt': My illustrated comic story 'Extra Life' (written by Neil Kleid) will be printed in issue #4 of the new regular Tales comic series from Papercutz. It will be reprinted in issue #3 of the graphic novel collections. I also did the cover on issue#4 of the regular book.
Before getting to my new project let's get to your last posts:
designboot: Thx man! I am drawing and painting all my stuff digital. Right now my pencils get a little dusty here I'm not working with paths or bezier curves... it is all drawn by hand with a Wacom Intuos DinA5 tablet.
Arne S.: Hey Arne. Good to see you again. Thx for your comment. I think it should be the goal for every artist to get better... I'm working on it
Flesheater: Thx! You can see and read more about my new project at the end of this post. The girl sketch is from my creator owned comic series I will do when the time is right. It is about a girl with special powers. I think you haven't read something like this before... right? hehehe
Dynamike: Thank you. Point taken and sorry to disappoint you with todays post... only finished stuff from the new comic project. But I will do sketches... I promise. Stay tuned.
So here it is... the official news:
I'm working on a new four issue mini-series for Bluewater Productions Inc.
The project I'm working on is 'Ray Harryhausen Presents "It Came From Beneath The Sea... Again!"' and it is a sequel to the original sci-fi movie from the fifties 'It Came From Beneath The Sea'.
I did an interview about the books and you can read it here:
BTW: There will be a Bluewater sampler book 'Ray Harryhausen Presents' out in October 2007 for only 99cent. It contains the first five pages of the new series and preview art from the other Ray Harryhausen books Bluewater is doing. And remember... only 99 cents!
He congrats to your project! I like the cover and the 3 pages. There are two little things that I noticed.
1. The American flag at the first pic, you painted the stars on the opposite site of the stack. I'm not american as you know (I think they would kill you )
2. In the pic where shepard talks through the radio his face seams to be a little bit of.
Elvis looks so cool!! You maybe did to much to his right shoulder. It kinda look like there are several collarbones. The color is great.
Keep it up
when you get to hell, tell them I sent you - you`ll get a group discount
dude sorry for being away for ages...these look sweet! i think you could have some more colour variations in the skin tones though...other than that keep at it man, you're definitely on the path of success
Your stuff really gives me a graphic design feel to it. The way you apply colour in particular is what sets it off. I think if you learned a bit more about the psychological effect of colours and placement you could really make your pieces/comics more impactful. My fav. are your portraits of spock and kirk way back on pg 2 in post 44. later
Show more like the last posts please. Frank rocks! I wish I will see a punisher comic with this kind of style someday... reminds me of the first jim lee punisher war journals from the late 80ies... early 90ies. I love this comics.
Dreamworker: Thank you! I will do more of this sketch and color stuff in the future. I also will post some sketches from the Ray Harryhausen project if possible.
kischi: Thx! Argh!!! I hope Bluewater has a 'No-Prize'... Thx for crits and great you like Elvis... but who doesn't!?
paperX: Thx for your kind words! I missed you btw
ped454: Thank you! I work on it ... and btw: I would love to draw a Star Trek story someday... that would be fun.
jedininjaman: Hey thank you! Regarding the nose: I think especially the nose of Alpha Bettie ... I think it's my style to draw those noses and I will be remembered as "the guy who draw the nose characters" hehe. Thx again! CU
Dynamike: Thx! I love those comics too. Maybe I drew him this way because of this. I started to collect US-comics with the Punisher comics from Jim Lee. Great stuff.
Here is a view into the future... a sneak peek from my creator owned project which hopefully see the light of day in 2008. The plan is to work on it after the Ray Harryhausen project. Because I will do everything myself (story and complete art) I will use a 'fast' style like shown here in this preview pic.
max1975: Thx! Great you like my stuff and welcome to my sketchbook
spazazo: Thank you! 'Comic' is everything I want to show... so I think it is working. Thx
kischi: Thx again! It is fast compared to my other stuff because I don't use inks and flat colors instead of the more painted from my other stuff. I need to find a style which looks good and can be done fast because this creator owned project is done beside the 'real' work
TLL: Thank you! I just read your post and edited this answer. For your question regarding the group I will contact you via PM.
Here are some wallpapers I uploaded to imageshack today:
Well, what can I say ... Elvis and Maya characters rocks for me ... I see in your SB very cool and important very professional arts ... you definetly long time ago choose your path so .. there is not much to tell about sugestions to your art ... only crituques ;P but there isn't much to crituque.
Here are some news and at the end of the text you can see the first five covers to the new MADDRAX series:
Last week the first issue of the new twelve issue spin-off series to MADDRAX hit the stands in Germany. The title of the new novel series is ‘Das Volk der Tiefe’ and it is a HORROR series. All twelve covers for the books are done by me. The new series is also a great way to get into the world of MADDRAX without knowing all the other MADDRAX novels. So if you don’t know what all the fuzz is about THIS is your chance to dive into this fantastic world! You can buy the books at your lokal newspaper shop in many european countries.
And if you are into U.S. comics you should take your October Previews catalog and go to page 318 where you can see my cover to the new ‘Tales from the Crypt’ comic (Issue #4). The book contains my illustrated 20page comic ‘Extra Life’ (written by Neil Kleid) and is CERTIFIED COOL! Thank you Diamond!
And at last for today I want to thank everyone I met at the con in Würzburg yesterday. I had a great time and I will be at the next Würzburg con in 2008!
Arne S.: Thx for your comments Arne. I'm using different techniques for the whole Maddrax cover series and the goal always is to give the covers a feeling of 'Pulp'. Great you like them so far.
Here is the cover to the comic 'Tales from the Crypt' Issue #4 which can be ordered now ( Diamond Previews Page 318 ). The book is 'Certified Cool!' and Papercutz used my whole cover idea even the speech balloon on the cover.
I'm a huge fan of speech balloons on covers and I always feel sad this isn't used very often in todays comics. I think it is a great way to pull the readers into the issues and make the readers curious what the book is about.
