Three years ago on Halloween I had an appointment with an Oncologist that I had been referred to. Neo, from the matrix, checked me in at the front desk, a French maid took my blood pressure, and as we watched a class of kindergarteners march by outside in costumes, the doctor advised me that I better start chemo if I wanted a greater than 50% chance of surviving my skin cancer. It should have been a bizarre joke, but it wasn't. The next year, a co-worker of mine had the same disease, same doctor and same treatment... and a much less happy ending: http://overcode.yak.net/3

So sometimes I think that ripping my skin off might not be a bad idea.

fellow ninja, fear not. I believe it is open to interpretation. It says full body self portrait, and halloween.

go for whatever your mind creates.

Yes, I imagine, as long as the creature's design says "Halloween".

Alright gents, coming here to post this WIP sketch to also clarify something:

    CHOW #46 - Halloween Self

Here's a rough design sketch for my character. Now, the basis of it is very Cenobitesque in nature, so I'm wondering, does that consitute as creature? I mean, my character is going to be somewhat dapper, and a bit more clothed than I imagine some of the other entries (I'm only assuming), so am I good to go with this?

    Updated WIP:

I'm going to try this one for sure, and hopfully pull a tutorial out of it Here's hoping!

Damn SuperV, WaffleHN and J... already nice wips and great ideas to boot! I know what Koz will be wohoo can't wait for it man. SO we can basically turn ourselves into anything, because people dress up as just about anything for Halloween?

I want to dress up as a Xenomorph from the Aliens movies, is that copyright infringement? I intend on chaning some things on the beast, since i must have eyeholes in my suit and other human features.

I meant for the competition. The Xenomorph is considered somebody else's idea. But ghosts and vampires arent. Where is the line between originality and artistic theft?

I know man, I was just kidding. It would probably be wiser to go for an original design as you can come up with. An alien is a pretty definitive design by mr. Giger. It's pretty recoqnizable as far as designs go, so if you just do an alien, you'll gain no merits on the creative design part of the character. Then again, if you can make your own personal twist on the monster, that would be great as well. There are bound to be a lot of interpretations of famous monsters in here. I doubt anyone will go for a straight copy of an original design though.

I've been wanting to do a creatured up portrait of myself. I guess this is my chance.
Pretty much the most awesome concept ever.

I imagine you can, though I think the real issue here is that the portrait is not of you wearing a costume, but to paint yourself as the creature itself. Unless you were a Xenomorph wearing a skinsuit, there should be no reason to have "eyeholes".

I'd take Vlieg's advice though on the matter. If you're going to be an alien, be an alien, and if you want, be a Gigeresque alien, but I doubt you'll get much out of being just a Xenomorph. I, for example, am going for a Clive Barker Cenobitesque appearance, but I'm not going to be Pinhead, y'dig?

I'm in, this should be good, I'll start posting WIP's tonight.

First WIP, didn't want to bite on super's idea of the whole underwater monster creature, but the Merman was my favorite when I was a kid.
