Druid of the Talon: Update 10/23/06

    Surprise! It's a cow.
I play WoW regularly ;d and felt I should do some fanart for it. Any critiques anyone wants to give before I attempt coloring it would be awesome.

Edit: As per Stephanie's suggestion, I straightened her back a bit to hopefully make it look more like she's leaning back against that rock.

You have some very expressive line work here - despite the many many detailed and intricate lines, your thicker holding line is helping to keep things nice and clear. Also, nice circular compostion with the wind/magic wisps there!

I like the overhead perspective, but it looks as though she's leaning back... is she? If not, there would be some overlapping of forms if we were looking down on her... like on the legs there... but if you color this and add a shadow on her back, it would clarify if she is leaning.

Okay. I've started coloring, and I like the color scheme. But I'm not so great with backgrounds, and this one seems so boring. Any ideas on how to liven it up a bit? I was thinking about putting in one of those cartoony battle scenes made mostly out of silhouettes or something, but I have no idea how to make one of those. So any ideas and critiques on coloring would be awesome ;3 I'll start working on details once I can flesh out the background more.
Thanks ahead of time for any comments!

    Hi rosethorn,

nice image you've got here. Two things:

One- the BG you suggested- the silhouette battle scene- given the perspective you've set up for this figure, sort of a 3/4 down angle, I don't think this kind of BG would work unless it's far below- and I don't think you want to complicate the circular composition with all that detail. You might consider doing a couple of muted bodies lieing around her... but personally I think just putting her in a "wind tunnel" kind of things works just fine.

Two- Her left (our right) hand-- the color of the stone and that of the hand is too near IMHO- I would change the stone because at this point her hand and it are hard to distinguish.

Great job so far, overall. Want to see where it goes! Keep it up!

    -Andrew

Still working on coloring, got most of the main flats done, and some of the shading. But I was experimenting with the layer styles and tried turning the tauren's coloring on overlay, and it had this effect I rather liked. So I was wondering what other people thought.
