    Sinix - Digital Scrapyard

Well, I was suprised, but davi asked me to fire up an exclusive sketchbook. I'm still an amateur, but I'm happy to share my trials and errors as I keep learning. I'm gonna be using this as a dumping ground for digital works, tutorials, and possibly a soapbox for my random opinions on art and art theory. Any traditional stuff will go in my regular sketchbook, which will become purely for traditional stuff.

I haven't brought much to get this started, it's been a slow year for me... plagued with constant sickness and sloth. Hoping to turn that around, that SF workshop can't come fast enough. (hopefully I won't be overly sick)

I do alot of random texturing tests and boring things in painter, but one thing I noticed recently was that I have been putting too much value variation in my skin tones.. keeping things way too light in general, with overly dark shadows (huge value changes are great for metal, but definitely not for sensibly lit skintones).... so I've been trying to work on minimalizing the value range as much as possible.

Edit: Forgot to mention, since people sometimes ask about brushes and programs. I only use Painter 9.. because I find it to be the most intuitive, as far as brushes go, I mainly just use the "Thick & Thin pen" which is under the pen category. I think it's great fun to use for metal textures, like in the bottom sketch... just dabbing the tablet with the stylus instead of really "brushing" gives some fun effects when using the thick&thin pen. Try it sometime.

    Anyway, more to come.

I'll put up acouple more facial speedpaints... minimizing the value changes has made my skintones better, but I'm still working on it. I'll try to start getting some more ambitious stuff done, but it always seems like theres something I just wanna practice, hence the small simple stuff.

    Sequential Scrapyard

I've thought it would be cool in the future to use this section to make some long ca exclusive comics, unfortunately, this is not that. This is just some sequential art I did for a friend's writing. Mainly just an experiment with presentation. And I'll probably just post random comic scraps or one page sequential stuff here. Still looking forward to trying some sort of CA exclusive comic sometime in the future.

Oh dude, I saw your stuff on DA and that's what brought me over to CA in the first place. Glad that I finally found your sketchbook on here!

Thanks for introducing me to this wonderful forum!

That is very good stuff. I've noticed that in the world of concept art, comic books etc.. light sets the mood and you have done a excalent job of capturing it (especally the forest). And you did a fairly good job of capturing the movement in the crow. But I think you should go back and add a little detail and leave the rest as is to show more movement, and give the viewer a distenction of of movement in the picture and well as a seperation of movement from art style

It's great to see more work from you, the sequential is kind of haunting I hope to see more like it.
