Has anyone else had any 'bounceback' notices from this company's website?

This is the notice I got back when I emailed Destiny Pictures:

This is an automatically generated Delivery Status Notification

THIS IS A WARNING MESSAGE ONLY.

YOU DO NOT NEED TO RESEND YOUR MESSAGE.

Delivery to the following recipient has been delayed:

    enquiries@destinypictures.com

Message will be retried for 2 more day(s)

    Technical details of temporary failure:
TEMP_FAILURE: Could not initiate SMTP conversation with any hosts:
    [destinypictures.com (1): Connection timed out]

I am respecting the company's request to not call them directly, but it is frustrating when the only way to contact them seems to be flawed.

I'm ignorant of how to determine if this is a problem on my end, or with the company's website.

    Grrrr.... frustrating!

    Mailer Daemon

I've had the same problem. I PMed the company and let them know the email link didn't work, so I'm hoping the problem will be resolved.

    Baba_Maal,

Any pay will be negotiated privately. We've all gone 'round and 'round blathering about employers needing to post their pay.

Simple fact is, they're never going to.

    This is the process:
-- First, they must be interested in you.
-- Then you communicate with them privately.
-- Depending on their impression of your talent and experience, they'll negotiate with you on price. If you're one of several people being hired, then they might pay someone else more than you. That will never change.

I've been one of the 'loudest' people here, trying to encourage employers to post their pay scales. I am more of an idealist, in that I would love it if there was a 'menu' of wages posted from employers, but that is ultimately unrealistic.

Simply put, I was wrong to do so.

I've been in a position to hire others, and you simply cannot contact everyone, because of time constraints. You contact the ones you're interested in, and even then, you negotiate, because one person may be more valuable to you, so you throw a couple of bucks more towards that one, than you would any of the others.

I should have kept that in mind when I was very vocal on these job boards, that these are the realities, that I can do nothing to change them.

    And neither can you.

It's the way it is. Get over it, wrap your brain around it, and get behind it. Because it's never gonna change.

So why waste your time arguing into the ethernet? Just adjust to the reality of the situation, and learn how to make that work for you.

Nope... still the same problem. But as some people mentioned here, the company will detect it for sure and maybe repost here. Matter of patience I think

    Email problem

    Hi everyone,

Thanks for bringing this problem to our attention. We weren't aware of it this end, and not exactly sure of the problem, we think it may be with the host server.

We'll take a look at the postings here, and will get back to everyone once we make a decision.

I noticed some of you talking about wage structure, and yes, you're correct in saying that usually this is done privately, and negotiated between the artist and employer, however there are also sometimes set budgets for these things, for example the art department budget may include a position for a concept artist for 10 weeks @ US$1500.

This is done when the script is broken down and scheduled and budgeted, and an estimate is provided for the total cost and time frame - I.E before financing begins.

Based on that you may just be told what the rate is, and for how long the position is.

I've been a concept artist/matte painter for a few years, and most of my last ones were AU$1800 - $2000 for a 50 hour week (standard film week) on Superman returns, House of Wax, and See No Evil.

It also sometimes depend on how good you are as to that wage structure.

I'm sure we'll have the email problem fixed in a couple of days, so will look forward to seeing all of your work then.

    Thanks again

    James

Thanks for the update James. Your explanation is quite right from my experiences. I just finished an upcoming motion picture called "The Strangers" for Universal Pictures/Rogue Entertainment and compensation for pre-visual work was budgeted in as you mentioned. i.e. - "we have $X number of dollars, and can only use storyboard artists until that dollar amount has been used up". Its not uncommon. Also, it is correct that *most* companies will only talk money privately, and that is as it should be. There are too many factors involved. It's just standard buisness procedure. Look forward to hearing from you about your film project! You can email me at info@filmshotsstudio. Contact for my newest samples as I can't release them currently to the public per my respective clients and release date for the respective films. Confidentiality is of utmost importaince.
