Any one have a knowledge of historical lexis?

I have a 2 hour media presentation about documentaries tomorrow, and im just finishing the hand out now, but i realise the one part sounds too difficult
as it has a content of historical information of documentaries i need to include - this section of it is about propaganda in documentaries and how they were considered political weapons in the 1960s and 70s

    i had the words
    neo-colonisation and
    capitalism
but i realised people might not know what it meant ( like myself)

ive looked for an easy translation, but the best i could get was

neo-capitalism : A policy whereby a major power uses economic and political means to perpetuate or extend its influence over underdeveloped nations or areas

capitalism: an economic system in which investment in and ownership of the means of production, distribution, and exchange of wealth is made and maintained chiefly by private individuals or corporations, esp as contrasted to cooperatively or state-owned means of wealth

as you can see, thats very wordy
please dont think im trying to get someone else to do my work, as im not, ive finished my work i just want to reword this part to something more simple, as i cant find a simpler definition and i wondered if anyone on here could do so!

if you can come up with a simpler definition then please post! it will be gratefully received!

Capitalism it is an economic system in which you live now, lefran.

All resources and products of human work ( well not all, not always, state owns the most important ones, very often, like oil, or television, or new found metal or coal) but most belongs to private people, proprietors, meaning they have right to sell it, or let it be rent or exploit it. It includes ownership to some nature resources too, soil, lakes, forests. People are not on sale but you can buy product of their work or hire them.

There are other economic systems which co-exist now, socialism, partly socialism as in Sweden as I know, totalitarianism all belongs to the king or sheik, military regime ( economy could be based on socialism or capitalism). The base of economy is to whom belong the propriety and product of human work.

Neo-colonism is a way in which one country or just one corporation ( more powerful) takes under its influence another (rich in resources or capable to buy population, but not technically evolved, for example). There were colonies which belonged to country where you live now, which made it the powerful imperia it is now, India for example was a colony for England, the same America. The system doesn't exist now, but there are new ways to take over the market, so to speak. For example by talking over new just appeared market of potential buyers with the most successful or pioneer product.
Well that in simple words of course.

I'm no expert, but for capitalism I would say something about
"An economic system characterized by private ownership and regulation of business, encouraging competition, and limited government involement in business practices" or something.

    Hope I could somehow help.

lefran, sorry, but...the two defs you posted are actually remarkably concise descriptions. anything else would be icing the cake...
