Here is an old sketchbook from 2003 that I filled while traveling through Italy for 2 months. Some good, some bad, some horrible, but all great memories from the trip. 5 minutes to about 30 minutes, i guess??

Really nice carnet de voyage!!! very masterly, definetly has the feel of old masters written all over it! (probably because they're master copies... (the portraits I mean) I don't reckognize them all...), but the handling is very reminiscent of "old school" as well.
I dig the landscapes the most, they almost have a rembrandt markmaking to them. thanx for sharing ^^

Lovely lovely stuff.
like Nicolas said, superb "carnet de voyage" ! Thanks for share these jewels with us, David. They are from 2003, right ? Ho boy, I can't wait to see some more.
With all the best.
My faves are the old dude and the buildings/environments. God, these renderings are ubersweet. Got more?
welcome to the sb section David. im glad to see you posting in these areas. seriously lovely stuff. hopefully you got some new stuff to show us too.
gorgeous paintings btw
nice drawings and great painting in the ff section, the work on your site is fucking excellent, keep posting
Thanks all. I was able to keep a small book from a quick trip to Paris as well, Mostly studies from paintings and sculpture, I'll search around tonight for those scans. i agree with the Highlighting. I spent the last year playing around with drawing with white chalk,
Here is one that is way in progress. White chalk, Graphite, on Verso Ingress Heavyweight paper.
is the last one from a model or from a photo?
did you do this just with a regular pencil? did you tone the page and then erase out, or build it up? sorry if these are stupid questions >.<
i love your paintings.
Well the drawing of the guy is from another drawing from life, I'm redoing it cause I didn't like the paper that it was on, I have over done some areas and I wanted to make it a little larger(35 by 25 in.) I had toned the paper myself with gouche and in wouldn't take the darks the way I wanted.
I used just a regular mech 2b pencil, I smudge and erase out.
Thanks, I'm not sure I know what the exclusive section is? Is that a pay section? I haven't had that much time to explore all of the sub sections.Originally Posted by Justin OaksfordDude, this is awesome that you have a sketchbook- Great work
IMO you should make one for the Exclusive section, there aren't a bunch of fine artists there that post this much!!!
Nah- it's something else- nevermind it- it's just a registered users only sectoin (like you an me), people who are just passing by can't view it- sort of an incentive just to register. Don't worry about it though, I was informed they already got enough people doing it ;D
here is a link to them= here

thanks everyone. Here are two studies of a real skull from the studio where I teach, I used them for an anatomy booklet that I put together for a workshop I taught this summer at the National Academy. I loved how messed up the teeth were. LOL the drawings are graphite on Utrecht plate bristol.
Gorgeous. Inspiring studies.
