Question: What do you mean when you say "Rotate the canvas"? I've heard that mentioned quite a few times, and I don't really know what it is or why it's such a desirable feature.

Moai: There is a function in Painter which allows you to rotate the canvas to any angle really quickly with the help of your Tablet Pen and a button. This is a really great function since it gives you precision. Most people find it easier to draw straight lines in a certain direction. I have problems (and I think many share this with me) drawing precise lines from right to left, and if I want to make a straight line I prefer doing so vertically (top to bottom). I would gues that even you rotate the pad when drawing on paper...?) Anyway, it's a really neat and desirable function.

Thanks everyone, for taking some of the pain out of a marathon painting session.

Tyranx: The trick would be to master both a lush illustrative style and a quick concepting shorthand. That's why I keep trying with the layers. Do you have any organizational philosophy for all the layers (beyond just background to foreground)? I'd also like to be equally comfortable in painter and Photoshop, but that's not going to happen until I start forcing myself to use painter more. Oh well.

Jakkas: No deleting tutorials! I needed to refer to you guys while making mine. They next guy will out-do me anyway.

Cloister & MJ: I'll show you an early example that testifies to the correctional power of flipping: Scroll between the two tight drawings (images 3 & 4 - not counting the header), and look at the left eye fix. The left eye looked fine to me when I drew it, but after flipping, it popped out as clearly skewed and out of line with the other. It was much easier to fix that in the drawing stage rather then wait until after I'd invested a lot of time rendering and maybe miss the error altogether. There were many little fixes like this throughout the process.

Banck: If nominated, I will not run. If elected, I will not serve.

Moai: It is fun. Re: rotate canvas? Yeah, what Cloister said. In painter, if you drag while holding space+alt you can spin the page around like a piece of paper sitting on the table. I don't think it makes much difference with straight lines because there are other line tools (shift or ctrl+U) but it really helps in hitting precise curves because your elbow only really arcs in one direction. I think this is the main reason that people like Feng say that they draw in Painter and paint in Photoshop. The feature is rumored to be included in the next version of Photoshop.
